What skills and qualifications are needed to work in connected TV?

To thrive as a Connected TV (CTV) Specialist, you need expertise in digital advertising, media planning, and a solid understanding of CTV platforms and audience targeting, often supported by a relevant degree in marketing or communications. Familiarity with programmatic ad platforms, data analytics tools, and CTV ad measurement systems is typically required. These qualifications ensure effective campaign execution, data-driven decision-making, and successful collaboration across teams in the rapidly evolving CTV landscape.

What is connected TV?

Connected TV (CTV) refers to any television set that is connected to the internet and can stream digital content, such as movies, TV shows, or live broadcasts, through apps or platforms. This includes smart TVs with built-in internet capabilities as well as TVs connected via external devices like Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire Stick, or gaming consoles. Connected TV allows viewers to access on-demand content and streaming services beyond traditional cable or satellite programming. It also enables advertisers to target audiences more precisely with digital ads, making it an increasingly popular channel for both viewers and marketers.

What are common challenges in connected TV advertising and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Connected TV (CTV) advertising often encounter challenges such as rapidly evolving technology, fragmented platforms, and maintaining consistent measurement across devices. Adapting to frequent updates in streaming platforms and ensuring ad compatibility can require continuous learning. Additionally, collaborating with cross-functional teams—like data analysts, creative, and media planners—is essential to optimize campaigns and overcome tracking limitations. Staying updated on industry standards, using unified measurement tools, and fostering strong communication with technical teams can help address these challenges effectively.
