What is a conflict minerals job?
A Conflict Minerals job involves ensuring a company's supply chain complies with regulations related to conflict minerals, such as tin, tungsten, tantalum, and gold (3TG). Professionals in this role work with suppliers, conduct due diligence, and ensure ethical sourcing practices. They may also assist with compliance reporting and improve transparency in procurement.
What are the daily responsibilities of a conflict minerals compliance specialist?
As a Conflict Minerals Compliance Specialist, your daily tasks often include gathering and analyzing supplier data, performing due diligence on mineral sourcing, and preparing compliance reports for regulatory agencies. You will frequently collaborate with procurement teams, suppliers, and legal departments to ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations such as Dodd-Frank. Additionally, you may conduct supplier training sessions and support audits to verify conflict-free sourcing practices. This role requires regular communication with both internal teams and external partners to uphold ethical sourcing throughout the supply chain.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the conflict minerals position?
To succeed in a Conflict Minerals Compliance Specialist role, you need a background in supply chain management, regulatory compliance, and strong analytical abilities, often backed by a related degree such as international business or environmental studies. Familiarity with compliance management systems, due diligence software, and certifications like CFSI (Conflict-Free Sourcing Initiative) or knowledge of SEC regulations is typically required.
