Low Voltage Technician

Job Description

This role focuses on installing, routing, and testing low voltage, fiber optic, and copper cabling in an industrial environment. You will support critical facility operations by running computer cabling to testing equipment and assembly line machinery, mounting cabinets, and interpreting electrical documentation to ensure safe, high-quality installations.

Responsibilities

• Install low voltage and fiber optic cable in an industrial environment, ensuring neat, organized, and code-compliant routing.
• Run fiber cabling to equipment cages, testing equipment, and assembly line machinery to support production and facility operations.
• Install and route copper and network cabling for computer wiring and related low voltage systems.
• Mount and secure cabinets and related low voltage enclosures in accordance with project specifications.
• Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams to plan and execute cabling routes and terminations.
• Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to cut, terminate, mount, and secure cabling and equipment.
• Assist with panel wiring and low voltage terminations as required by project scope.
• Perform basic troubleshooting of low voltage and network cabling issues to ensure proper connectivity and performance.
• Work with testing equipment to verify continuity, performance, and proper installation of fiber and copper cabling, as needed.
• Collaborate with project teams to complete assignments within scheduled shift hours and project timelines.
• Follow all safety procedures and site-specific requirements while working in industrial and commercial environments.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 4 years of low voltage cabling experience.
• Proven experience installing fiber optic cable in industrial environments.
• Proven experience installing copper cable and network cabling.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
• Hands-on experience with cable installation, including routing, securing, and terminating low voltage, fiber optic, and copper cabling.
• Proficiency using hand tools and power tools for cabling, mounting, and panel work.
• Experience with industrial cabling environments and practices.
• Basic troubleshooting skills for cabling and low voltage systems.
• Familiarity with panel wiring and electrical or low voltage cabling layouts.
• Ability to work safely and effectively in a structured industrial or commercial setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience installing fiber optic cables in industrial environments beyond the minimum requirements.
• Commercial electrical experience, which can expand opportunities for future projects.
• Experience working with testing equipment to validate cabling and connectivity.
• Experience working with computer wiring and network cabling infrastructure.
• Interest in or willingness to participate in apprenticeship or formal training programs.
• Ability to adapt to different project sites and tasks as assignments change.

Work Environment

This role is based on an industrial project in La Vergne, TN, focused on running computer cabling between testing equipment within a facility. You will work with low voltage, fiber optic, and copper cabling in a production and testing environment that includes assembly line machinery and industrial equipment. Typical shifts run either from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., providing a consistent daytime schedule. The initial assignment is expected to last approximately 3 to 4 weeks, with the potential for reassignment to other projects in the Nashville area based on performance and skills. Work involves regular use of hand tools and power tools, working around testing equipment, and operating within established safety and facility guidelines. When project locations are more than 60 miles from the office or job site, per diem may be provided to help offset travel-related expenses.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $30.00/hr.
