Job description

Classification Definition Application Period: This job posting will close upon receipt of 100 completed applications. This recruitment will be used to fill a vacancy in the Police Department.

All appointments to this position are subject to the successful completion of an in-depth background investigation conducted by the Rialto Police Department. DEFINITION To perform duties in support of the repair and maintenance of City buildings and facilities; to perform a variety of semi-skilled to skilled building trade duties including carpentry, painting and minor electrical work; to maintain and operate tools, equipment and vehicles; and to perform a variety of maintenance tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is the full journey level class within the Facility Maintenance Technician series.

Employees within this class perform the full range of duties as assigned. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the Lead Facility Maintenance Technician in that the latter performs the most difficult types of duties assigned to classes within the series such as overseeing the work of contracted services and providing lead direction and training to lower-level technical staff.

Essential Duties and Responsiblities SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives general supervision from the Lead Facility Maintenance Technician. ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS--Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Essential Functions: 1. Performs various repair and maintenance duties to City buildings and facilities; performs a variety of semi-skilled to skilled building trade duties including carpentry, plumbing, heating, cooling, field lighting maintenance, phone system maintenance, swimming pool maintenance, painting, furniture moving, lock installation, roof repair, and electrical work.

2. Performs general maintenance duties inside and outside of buildings; repairs locks, patches roofs and replaces tiles; paints inside and outside of buildings; performs concrete work as needed; installs door locks; installs doors; installs security systems; repairs appliances. 3.

Repairs and maintains a variety of plumbing fixtures and fittings including valves, sinks, fountains, faucets and related devices; installs sewer and drain systems. 4. Repairs and maintains a variety of heating, venting and air conditioning systems as assigned; replaces heating, venting and air conditioning system components as needed.

5. Repairs and maintains swimming pools and spas; maintain proper pH and chlorine levels according to safety requirements; order, receives and stores chemicals; replaces pumps, heaters, lighting, chemical feeders and related components. 6.

Repairs, maintains and installs telephone system equipment and components including switching gear and line routing; maintains computer wiring including fax modems and personal computer wiring and phone lines; programs and updates voice mail components. 7. Repairs and maintains assigned interior and exterior lighting systems; replaces system components as needed.

8. Performs electrical repairs such as replacement of wall receptacles, cords, light fixtures and fuses; troubleshoots electrical problems; installs new electrical services including building, modular systems, and parking lot electrical systems. 9.

Performs a variety of carpentry duties on city facilities; fabricates and repairs desks, shelving units and related furniture and components. 10. Assists in ordering electrical, plumbing and hardware supplies; coordinates with management on major building maintenance purchases.

11. Maintains and operates a variety of tools, equipment and vehicles in a safe and efficient manner. 12.

Prepares and maintains records and logs of work performed. 13. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

Training: Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency. Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a State of California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance program.

Possession of, or ability to obtain, refrigerant certification within 6 months of employment.
