Job description

CNC Machinist and Programmer

$35/hr - $50/hr

Responsibilities

  • Program CNC machines using Mastercam to produce precision parts according to engineering requirements.
  • Interpret and work from CAD models created in SolidWorks to develop accurate CNC programs.
  • Set up and operate CNC mills, including 4-axis and 5-axis machines, to manufacture complex components.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine machining operations and requirements.
  • Utilize G and M codes for CNC machine programming, operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Perform prototype machining and adjust setups or programs to achieve desired results.
  • Apply GD&T principles to ensure parts meet geometric dimensioning and tolerancing requirements.
  • Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to perform in-process and final quality checks.
  • Monitor machines during operation and make necessary adjustments to maintain accuracy and productivity.
  • Maintain CNC machines by performing routine cleaning, minor maintenance, and basic troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with team members to improve processes and support lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Document work as needed, including setup information, inspection results, and any program or process changes.

Essential Skills

  • 3+ years of CNC machining experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in programming CNC machines using Mastercam.
  • Ability to interpret CAD models from SolidWorks for CNC programming and machining.
  • Hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC mills, including multi-axis machines.
  • Strong knowledge of G and M codes for CNC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and its application in machining.
  • Experience working with Fanuc controls or similar CNC control systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform prototype machining and adjust programs and setups as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with 4-axis and 5-axis CNC mill machines.
  • High-performance engine components, aerospace, and/or automotive manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices.
  • Experience with both lathe and mill operations in a precision machining environment.
  • Comfort working with various machining equipment and tools in a small-shop setting.

Work Environment

The role is based in a small, clean, and well-organized shop within a growing, family-owned manufacturing business. You will work primarily on CNC mills, including 4-axis and 5-axis machines, equipped with Mastercam, SolidWorks, and Fanuc-controlled systems. The schedule is first shift, with the option of four 10-hour days or five 8-hour days, typically between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., and up to approximately 10 hours of overtime per week. Weekend work is limited to none or minimal, supporting a balanced schedule in a collaborative and innovative production environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.
