Job description

Job Title: CAD Technician

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative CAD Technician to join our engineering team in Akron, OH. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing high-quality, accurate technical drawings that support manufacturing, facilitate sales, and assist the Contract Manager. Working closely under the guidance of the Lead Engineer, you will translate verbal instructions, rough sketches, and written requirements into precise technical schematics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting & Modeling: Create, update, and revise precise 2D technical drawings and 3D models using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent).
  • Design Interpretation: Interpret engineering sketches, redline markups, and verbal instructions to produce production-ready drawings, detailed assemblies, and accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Standards Compliance: Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards to ensure engineering drawings meet exact manufacturing tolerances.
  • Quality Assurance: Review and check drawings for accuracy, completeness, and strict compliance with company and industry drafting standards.
  • Data Management: Maintain, organize, and archive CAD files, managing revision histories within the company’s document management system.
  • Engineering Changes: Promptly execute drawing updates and revisions in response to Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, sales teams, and project managers.
  • Organization: Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
  • Technical Agility: Quick to adapt to shifting project requirements and able to work independently from rough conceptual instructions.
  • Software Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of standard CAD platforms (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).

Preferred Experience (Helpful Background)

  • Technical background in water/wastewater treatment or industrial processing industries.
  • Familiarity with mechanical design, industrial piping systems, and instrumentation layouts.

Why this version works better:

  • Professional Tone: Cleaned up typos (like commination, verbale, and pipping).
  • Clear Hierarchy: Divided into "Required" vs. "Preferred" skills, which helps candidates quickly self-assess if they are a good fit.
  • Action-Oriented: Used strong industry verbs (Translate, Execute, Review, Maintain) to make the role sound dynamic.
