Summary:

The BIM/CAD Technician will be an integral part of multiple project teams, developing model content for projects through construction, managing the coordination of multiple contractors' models and teams, and utilizing industry technology to communicate project plans, designs, and installation requirements across multiple levels of involvement. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong proficiency in visualizing multiple aspects of various project types.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage, plan, and implement various BIM-related processes on projects, including operating reality capture equipment, existing conditions modeling, cost estimation, phase planning, 3D visualization, 3D coordination, and site utilization planning.
  • Model various components of projects including but not limited to cast-in-place concrete, masonry, and detailed structural models and drawings based on construction documents, specifications, product submittals, RFI's, and shop drawings.
  • Manage the Building Coordination processes for projects as a project team member during this phase.
  • Prepare record models for turnover to customers upon project completion.
  • Identify constructability issues and missing information and notify the project team of these issues and RFIs that need to be written.
  • Maintain open communication with project teams to resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Assist in modeling content from early design through construction for visualization and estimating
  • Research and stay informed on VDC-related software and technologies, including authoring tools from Autodesk, Reality Capture tools, and Revizto.
  • Work with the Construction Technology Manager and other VDC staff to develop and implement company standards across individual projects.
  • Perform additional assignments per the supervisor's direction

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or Associate degree in architecture, construction management, civil engineering, construction administration, or similar discipline
  • 3-5 years of relevant industry experience
  • Proficiency in visualizing and creating detailed drawings per industry standards, reading contract documents, and a basic understanding of construction and generally accepted business practices.
  • A moderate level of competency with Autodesk Revit, Revizto, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Trimble SketchUp, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Microsoft 365 products, and Bluebeam Revu; proficiency with point cloud production software such as Leica Cyclone, Google Earth Pro, and Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.); experience with rendering and animation software is a plus.
  • Ability to assist with advanced BIM software troubleshooting and basic hardware troubleshooting.
  • Moderate understanding of the design and construction process, including virtual mockups, visual schedules, master plans, construction sequences, and detail orientation sufficient to organize and effectively manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work closely with project teams, working within project schedules, have strong presentation and communications skills, ability to adjust communication approach and format to meet the needs of differing personalities, expectations, and types of clients and designers, and must be willing to travel to project sites as needed.
