Designer 1
The Designer I is an advanced technical role responsible for producing accurate and efficient 3D models, supporting full unit builds, and generating shop drawings, work instructions, and basic BOMs with limited supervision. This position requires strong modeling competency, broad product knowledge, and the ability to guide CAD Technicians through workflow and prioritization. The Designer I works independently, supports problem-solving throughout the department, and plays an active role in maintaining project schedules and upholding XeteX quality and safety standards.
Job Duties:
Drafting, Modeling & Technical Work
• Demonstrate full 3D modeling efficiency, including open modeling without supervision
• Create, modify, and manage all file types and part/assembly models so they are usable and manufacturable
• Apply knowledge of complete unit builds and all major components (e.g., understanding components and their function)
• Take direction on shop drawing creation, work instructions, and basic BOM development
• Troubleshoot issues identified by manufacturing, designers, or CAD team members and assist in developing long-term corrective solutions
• Support lower-level CAD roles by reviewing their work and ensuring drafting/documentation accuracy
Workflow Management & Scheduling
• Prioritize all assigned work independently and maintain alignment with department schedules
• Assist CAD Technicians in identifying and prioritizing their tasks to keep work moving smoothly
• Work ahead in processes and identify next steps without needing instruction
• Ensure all units stay on schedule and proactively communicate with subordinates regarding timelines and expectations
• Collaborate with supervisors and management to address potential delays or issues affecting project completion
Quality, Standards, & Development
• Maintain full compliance with the XeteX Standard of File Management and Paperwork Management to ensure accuracy and efficiency
• Uphold and champion quality standards and hold peers accountable for meeting expectations
• Promote continuous learning and development among team members, encouraging improvement and knowledge sharing
• Actively contribute to improving processes, documentation quality, and modeling practices
Requirements
Qualifications:
• Associate degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting, or a related field
• Minimum of 3 years of CAD-related experience or demonstrated equivalent competency
• CAD-related experience or the ability to demonstrate CAD competency
• Advanced AutoCAD proficiency
• Advanced SolidWorks proficiency
• Familiarity with fabrication equipment
