Telgian Engineering & Consulting is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to support the Company's accounting and financial reporting functions. The Assistant Controller will play a key role in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information, and supporting the Controller with month-end close, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative and hands-on accounting professional who is comfortable working in a growing, multi-office organization and enjoys improving processes, solving problems, and partnering with leaders across the business.
Your Opportunity
o Assist the Vice President of Finance/Controller with the oversight of the Company's accounting and finance operations.
o Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
o Assist in analyzing financial results, identifying variances, and communicating key findings to the Controller and other leaders.
o Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, cash management, and general ledger activities as needed.
o Support the Project and Senior Project Accountants on issues that arise with project accounting.
o Monitor and maintain accurate account reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of discrepancies.
o Assist with the preparation of project budgets, project forecasts, and financial projections.
o Support the Controller with audit, tax, and other external reporting requirements.
o Help ensure compliance with applicable accounting principles, Company policies, and internal controls.
o Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and reporting.
o Assist with the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures.
o Partner with operational and department leaders to provide project financial information and support business decision-making.
o Provide guidance and support to accounting team members and assist with the development of team processes and procedures.
o Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
Your Qualifications
o Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
o 5+ years of project accounting/job costing experience, required.
o CPA or progress toward CPA certification preferred.
o Experience in a corporate accounting environment; experience in a professional services or project-based organization preferred.
o Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
o Experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
o Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
o Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
o Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
o Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
o Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Deltek Vantagepoint.
o Experience supervising or mentoring accounting team members preferred.
o Experience in a professional services, engineering, consulting, or project-based organization.
o Experience supporting project budgeting and project forecasting activities.
