Community Internship information

What are the Big 4 internships?

The Big 4 internships refer to internship programs offered by the four largest professional services firms: Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Ernst & Young (EY), and KPMG. These internships provide experience in areas such as audit, consulting, tax, and advisory services, often serving as a pathway to full-time employment within these firms.

Is $20 an hour good for an internship?

For a community internship, earning $20 an hour is generally considered above average, as many internships pay between minimum wage and $15 per hour. However, pay rates can vary based on location, responsibilities, and required skills, so it's important to compare with local standards and the internship's scope. Compensation should also be evaluated alongside experience gained and potential for future opportunities.

What is a community internship?

A community internship is a temporary position where interns work with local organizations or community groups to support projects, outreach, or services. These internships often focus on developing skills such as communication, teamwork, and community engagement, and may require volunteering or part-time commitment.

Job description

Patient Care Novice

Nurses develop their best skills through a combination of education and real-life experience. Our Patient Care Novices work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to assist in providing high quality patient care. This is an excellent opportunity to learn hands-on care and gain experience recognizing signs and symptoms and how to respond. If you can observe and turn instruction into compassionate, quality care, this is the job for you.

Who We Are

With 11 ministries and access points across Indiana, Franciscan Health is one of the largest Catholic healthcare systems in the Midwest. Franciscan Health takes pride in hiring coworkers that provide compassionate, comprehensive care for our patients and the communities we serve.

Overview

The Franciscan Nurse Internship program is a unique program to support the current demand on the nursing workforce. Employment at a Franciscan Health facility allows students to gain valuable clinical experience as they complete their nursing degree, easing the transition into nursing practice. Interns are paid to work 8-12 hours per month and receive tuition assistance for the last three semesters of their nursing program. With more than a century-old tradition of health care, Franciscan Health has long been a place where nurses care for patients while continuing Christ's ministry in our Franciscan tradition. The internship offers participants an exceptional opportunity to learn new skills of the nursing profession in a safe and nurturing environment.

The internship will take place at the following Franciscan Health locations:

  • Crown Point
Program Objectives

The internship is designed to help the student to:

  • Utilize the nursing process (Assessment, Planning, Intervention and Evaluation) for providing direct patient care in the acute care setting.
  • Manage the care of patients experiencing acute and chronic conditions utilizing a holistic approach.
  • Integrate knowledge and skills acquired throughout the program: critical thinking, care coordination, decision making, leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Develop clinical reasoning and competent nursing practice and begin transition to professional practice.
Requirements to Apply

Applying students must:

  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited ASN or BSN program and:
    • Completed at least one semester of clinicals in an ASN program or at least 2 semesters at a BSN program.
    • Must have 2-3 semesters left of school.

  • Commit to 3744 hours (2 years) of full time service upon obtaining their LPN and or RN credential.
