Job description

The following vacancy exists in Goshen Community Schools for the 2025 -26 school year:

Goshen Community Schools

Bus Aide

POSITION PURPOSE: To assist students and school bus driver in maintaining safety, order and discipline while the school bus is in operation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists in providing safe transportation.
  • Assists bus drivers in supervising and maintaining discipline.
  • Checks each child as they are received - checking for wet clothing, runny noses, anything in mouth.
  • Reports any seat belts or harnesses that are not working properly to the driver. Parents may seat the child (with some exceptions) - the aide is to buckle the child into the seat.
  • Consults with the driver regarding distribution of food.
  • Aide may be asked by driver to go to the residence for the child.
  • Assists each child to the Aide upon arrival at each building, if necessary.
  • Assists driver with all bus cleanups - sick children, lice, etc.
  • Assists on another bus, if necessary.
  • Uses the FM communications radio in case of emergency.
  • Operates mechanical life using approved procedures/guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Dependable – arrive at work on time each school day
  • Must be able to lift children up to 40 lbs. to sit child in car seat if necessary
  • Flexible - change in times, children, buses, routes, drivers.
  • Must have knowledge of the seats belts and harnesses and adjust for each child as they are received.

WORK CALENDAR: School year: 180 days per year; Hours are dependent upon route

SALARY: $17.00-$17.30, rate is dependent upon education and/or experience. (Schedule #23-2)
