Miami University's Communications and Marketing department has been charged with building and maintaining the university's brand on a local, regional, and national stage. This dynamic and award-winning team is comprised of over 70 marketing and communications professionals and is looking to hire a Director of Organizational Communications.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Communications with a dotted line to the Administrative Director in the Office of Human Resources Management (OHRM), the Director of Organizational Communications is responsible for developing and executing an integrated, comprehensive and omni-channel marketing communications plans designed to help departments, including OHRM, establish organizational messages, keep the campus community informed of developments, and help create a positive workplace culture. The incumbent will work closely with OHRM leadership and will serve as a liaison between the Office of University Communications and Marketing and OHRM.
This position has been approved for remote hybrid work: three (3) days on campus, two (2) days remote. Remote work is not a right, it is a work arrangement that can be modified or revoked by Miami University at any time for any reason, including the convenience of the University.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead and implement integrated, comprehensive communication and marketing strategies for internal stakeholders and align these strategies with Miami University's values, mission and brand standards.
• In collaboration with leaders in UCM and OHRM, develop marketing and communications plans designed to drive success with established internal communications, employee recruitment, and brand goals.
• Create and strategically execute marketing and communications plans to engage, inform, and inspire employees at Miami University to better understand how their everyday contributions enhance and support the organization's long-term growth using media relations, marketing and creative services, web and social media communication, targeted print and electronic communication, leadership communication, and other activities.
• Lead writer, editor, and publisher for all OHRM communications materials including but not limited to e-newsletters, magazines, website content, brochures, handbooks, posters, digital screens, and the like
• Oversee the OHRM's web presence and collaborate with web team members to plan and implement university strategies and departmental requests.
• Manage vendors and freelancers that support marketing and communications for OHRM (video, graphic design, PR, etc).
• Develop strategies for digital marketing that supports the university's brand as an employer.
• Ensure communication industry best practices are followed and monitor campus communication for internal/external response and/or legal concerns.
• Work with colleagues across the university to advance university-wide communication strategies.
• Represent OHRM through participation in regular meetings of university-wide communicators.
• Collaborate with university-wide colleagues on special projects.
• Serve as a liaison between University Communications and Marketing and OHRM, developing and assessing measurable goals and objectives that advance both Miami and OHRM.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree
• At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in public relations, marketing, and/or communications, including leadership or supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in a communications team
• Experience collaborating with digital and design teams
• Experience in higher education organization and operations
• Experience in employer branding, recruitment marketing, or change communications.

• Ability to communicate complex and strategic ideas clearly and effectively to varied audiences, teams, institutional leaders, and external partners.

• Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including the ability to mentor staff, build high-performing teams, and foster a collaborative and inclusive work culture.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills with the ability to align stakeholders around shared goals and institutional priorities.
• Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with the ability to make sound decisions and implement solutions that drive results.
• Ability to develop creative approaches to produce clear, compelling, motivating communications and campaigns that achieve desired outcomes.
• Experience determining appropriate message content for diverse audiences.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Demonstrated understanding of the higher education environment.
• Demonstrated understanding of the value of storytelling.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with intranet platforms, social media, and relational databases such as constituent relationship management (CRM) system as communications vehicles and content management tools.
• Demonstrated ability to leverage quantitative and qualitative data to inform communication strategies, measure effectiveness, and drive continuous improvement.
• Demonstrated ability to navigate complex, fast-paced environments by anticipating challenges, responding to shifting priorities, and developing innovative communication solutions.
