Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our RN Surgery, you will be a central figure in our patient care team, delivering exceptional, compassionate care that truly makes a difference in our patients' lives.
Every day you will collaborate on comprehensive screenings, conduct critical risk assessments, provide vital preventative health education, and expertly coordinate care for diverse patient populations, leveraging technology to streamline processes. You'll ensure patients feel informed and at ease, patiently guiding them through instructions and addressing their concerns.
To be successful in this role, you will combine robust clinical knowledge and technological proficiency with genuine compassion, strong communication skills, and an adaptable approach to learning and patient-centered care.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies patient with procedure and surgeon by verbalization, chart consent and I.D. band. Nurse checks all consents, I.D. bands, chart and has patient verbalize name, name of surgeon, planned procedure. Checks NPO status and medical allergies. Nurse takes initiative on own to gather information for patient's chart by checking folders for results/and or call appropriate departments herself.
  • Determines patient's perception of planned procedure and expected outcome. Identify sensory impairments that affect patient's ability to understand. Nurse has patient explain the procedure as they understand it and verbalize expected recovery course and time. Elicits information from chart or patient about sensory impairments. Nurse takes appropriate action in notification of surgeon/anesthesiologist if there is a variance in planned procedure and what patient anticipates. Nurse makes all attempts to overcome patient sensory impairment difficulties in order to provide adequate communication.
  • Identify past and present health problems by checking chart, lab results, EKG, X-ray and H&P. Have patient verbalize status of health. Assess for cardiovascular, renal, respiratory system status. Assess vital signs. Elicit information regarding past infectious diseases and allergies. Completes overall system review, restrictions to ROM, allergies, current medications, health problems. Communicates all necessary information to the team. Facilitates necessary adjustments made in planned procedure to meet individual patient needs. Makes an effort to assist Holding Room Nurse in gathering necessary information to facilitate prompt and complete assessment of patient.

Per Diem I – Has at least two years of RN experience and must agree to work 1 major holiday, 1 minor
holiday, 6 shifts per 6 week period and 2 of which shall be weekend shifts per 6 week period.

Job Requirements

Required:

  • 2 years of unit specific experience required, Surgical Services
  • California Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification required.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
