Position Overview:

The Lighting Engineer plays a key role in designing and delivering innovative lighting systems for themed entertainment environments. Working closely with Systems Designers and Project Managers, this role blends creativity and technical expertise to develop solutions that align with client vision and project requirements.


From concept through commissioning, the Lighting Engineer ensures every system is technically sound, elegantly executed, and meets the highest standards of performance and reliability. This role offers opportunities to collaborate with world-class designers, project managers, and creative technologists on some of the industryโ€™s most groundbreaking and complex projects.


Primary Responsibilities:

Lighting System Design & Engineering

  • Design and validate lighting systems, including equipment specifications, power and data requirements, and system integration.
  • Produce detailed engineering documentation: wiring and block diagrams, mounting plans, schedules, and manuals.
  • Review and specify components, design requirements, and tolerances to ensure system quality and safety.


Client Collaboration

  • Participate in client meetings to gather requirements and present solutions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Identify scope changes and coordinate with management to develop change orders.

  

Project Coordination

  • Collaborate with design, project management, and production teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of engineering standards and processes.
  • Stay current on emerging lighting technologies and evaluate their potential integration.

 

Field Installation & Integration

  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and onsite installation efforts.
  • Configure and commission lighting systems, including luminaires, drivers, gateways, and network devices.
  • Assist with luminaire aiming, lighting programming, and show control integration.

 

Technical Support & Mentorship

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for installed systems and technologies.
  • Provide warranty and technical support post-installation.
  • Mentor junior engineering staff and share expertise across disciplines.

 

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Contribute to the development of company-wide engineering standards.
  • Research and evaluate emerging products, technologies, and workflows for future projects.

Core Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Technical Theater, Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in themed attractions, theatrical production, concert touring, or equivalent, including at least 2 years leading projects.

 

Technical Tools & Software

  • CAD & Modeling: AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, Bluebeam
  • Lighting Control Platforms: ETC Paradigm, ETC Eos, ETC Mosaic, Enttec ELM, GrandMA
  • Lighting Layout & Data Tools: Lightwright, AirTable, ETC DaVinci, Autodesk ACC Build
  • Commissioning Tools: sACNView, DMXCat, Advatek Assistant, DiGidot, ETC Concert
  • General Applications: MS Office, Google Workspace, Quickbase (preferred), and project management tools (Wrike preferred)


Systems Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of modern lighting control systems, technologies, and components.
  • Proficiency in DMX, sACN, ArtNet, and related lighting control protocols.
  • Working knowledge of low-voltage wiring, IP networking, and electrical power systems.
  • Experience with both live event and architectural lighting environments.

 

Certifications

  •  ETC Select Authorized Service Technician certification required.
  • ETCP Rigging or Electrician certification a plus.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 25-50 pounds to a height of 3-4 feet and load them into trucks
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, or movement within installation environments.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with media server technologies and show control systems.
  • Experience with software scripting or automation tools.
  • ETCP Rigging Certification preferred.
