Job description

Young Global Professionals are an integral part of the Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense team. Our projects are all-hands-on-deck, and we encourage interns to actively engage with events, projects, and research. This position will expose the candidate to the logistical elements of event-planning, think tank operations, research, and our publications process. 


This internship offers hands-on experience and exposure to areas such as program operations, research, critical thinking, communications, event planning, government and congressional education, and stakeholder engagement. Interns will gain insight into assessing biodefense capability gaps, while supporting key priorities and projects.


The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative, attention to detail, and a strong interest in biodefense programs and policies, along with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.


This internship is based in our Washington, DC headquarters, requiring a minimum of 4 days per week in office. Interns will compensated at a rate of $18.50 per hour.

 

Responsibilities

  • Supports the substantive and operational work of the Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense.
  • Assist in research and drafting of materials for inclusion in Commission reports for public distribution.
  • Assist in drafting briefing materials, talking points, memos, and remarks.
  • Assist with Commission meetings, events, media appearances, press releases, and speeches.
  • Assist in developing Commission content for the Atlantic Council website and the Commission’s social media accounts.
  • Assist staff in sharing Commission policy recommendations with Congress and the federal government.
  • Assist staff in working with Atlantic Council Engagement and Events team.
  • Attend or watch meetings, events, and congressional hearings and produce relevant summaries.
  • Produce readouts and summaries for internal meetings.
  • Assist the team with special projects, as needed.
  • Must be at least a college junior in good standing, a graduate student or a recent graduate, preferably majoring in biology, government, international affairs/relations, security studies, or related topics.
  • Strong verbal (including public speaking), written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • High organizational skills, especially regarding follow-up and prioritization.
  • High initiative with the energy, motivation, and endurance to work in an evolving, fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with federal government departments and agencies.
  • Ability to work with others to achieve common goals
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office suite.
