Weld Engineer - FANUC Spot Welding (1-Week Contract)

Schedule: Full-Time (Overtime Available)
Start Date: Immediate
Position Overview
GableTek is seeking an experienced Weld Engineer for a 1-week onsite project in Sterling Heights, Michigan. This is a hands-on assignment focused on setting up a FANUC robotic spot welding cell from the ground up, including robot programming, weld parameter development, process validation, and production-ready commissioning.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience with FANUC robots, robotic resistance spot welding, and automotive manufacturing standards. You must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and deliver a fully operational welding process within a compressed project schedule.
Responsibilities
  • Program and configure a FANUC robot for resistance spot welding applications.
  • Build and commission a robotic spot weld process from scratch.
  • Create and optimize robot paths, weld schedules, and production sequences.
  • Configure TCPs, frames, payloads, I/O, and tool data.
  • Integrate and verify spot weld gun operation and welding equipment.
  • Perform robot mastering, calibration, and accuracy verification.
  • Troubleshoot robotic, electrical, and welding process issues.
  • Optimize cycle time while maintaining weld quality.
  • Validate weld quality through testing and process adjustments.
  • Ensure all robot safety functions and interlocks operate correctly.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and engineering teams to complete startup on schedule.
  • Document programming changes and provide commissioning support.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience programming FANUC industrial robots
  • Strong experience with robotic resistance spot welding
  • Experience creating robotic welding programs from the ground up
  • Knowledge of robot frames, TCPs, I/O configuration, and production optimization
  • Experience commissioning robotic welding cells
  • Ability to troubleshoot FANUC robots, weld controllers, and peripheral equipment
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and robot documentation
  • Strong understanding of automotive manufacturing standards
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • FANUC Certified Programmer
  • Experience with automotive body shop welding systems
  • Experience with servo spot weld guns
  • Knowledge of PLC integration and industrial networking
  • Previous startup and commissioning experience in automotive automation
