What is a comfort advisor?

A comfort advisor is a sales position at an HVAC company. As a comfort advisor, you develop marketing strategies to reach new customers and maintain relationships with current customers to determine any other needs. You contact customers over the phone and may travel to their homes to present HVAC packages that fit their home and budget. There are no formal education requirements to become a comfort advisor, but most employees prefer candidates with sales experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a comfort advisor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Comfort Advisor, you need strong sales skills, knowledge of HVAC systems, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software and HVAC estimation tools is commonly required. Outstanding communication, active listening, and problem-solving skills help build trust and address customer concerns effectively. These abilities are critical for accurately assessing client needs, recommending appropriate solutions, and achieving sales targets in a competitive market.

What are some common challenges comfort advisors face when working with clients, and how can they be addressed?

Comfort Advisors often encounter challenges such as addressing customers' specific heating and cooling needs, overcoming objections about product costs, and explaining technical information in an accessible way. Building trust through clear communication and understanding each client's unique situation is key to success. Advisors can address these challenges by staying up-to-date on product knowledge, actively listening to customers, and collaborating closely with installation teams to ensure solutions meet expectations.

This is a consultative sales role built around company-generated opportunities. You’ll work with customers who have already expressed a need, evaluate their current system, explain available options, and guide them through equipment, financing, warranty, and installation considerations.

You’ll be supported by experienced service, installation, customer service, and operations teams, so you can focus on providing accurate recommendations and closing business.

We’re looking for someone who communicates well, follows up consistently, and knows how to build trust without relying on high-pressure tactics.

Why Join John Nugent & Sons?

  • Company-generated sales opportunities

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) with Company Match
  • Paid Time Off
  • Paid Holidays
  • Company-provided sales technology and resources
  • Ongoing product and sales training
  • Career growth opportunities
What You’ll Do
  • Meet with homeowners to assess HVAC replacement needs.
  • Review existing equipment and discuss comfort, efficiency, and budget priorities.
  • Recommend appropriate heating, cooling, and indoor air quality solutions.
  • Present equipment, financing, warranty, and installation options.
  • Prepare accurate proposals and explain recommendations clearly.
  • Follow up on open estimates and pending decisions.
  • Coordinate with service and installation teams after the sale.
  • Maintain accurate customer notes, proposals, and sales activity.
  • Stay current on products, promotions, financing, and available equipment options.
What We’re Looking For
  • Previous HVAC, home improvement, or in-home sales experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Comfortable discussing technical options with homeowners.
  • Strong follow-up and organization skills.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working toward sales goals.
  • Professional and customer-focused approach.
  • Comfortable using CRM systems, tablets, and digital sales tools.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means understanding what the customer needs, presenting the right options, following up consistently, and creating a smooth handoff to the installation team.

You’ll be expected to build trust, close qualified opportunities, and contribute to a strong customer experience from the initial appointment through installation.
