What is a cohort?

A Cohort job typically refers to a structured program where a group of individuals, known as a cohort, are hired or trained together. These programs are often used by companies, universities, or organizations to foster collaboration, mentorship, and skill development. Cohort jobs are common in internships, graduate training programs, and fellowship initiatives. Participants often progress through the program simultaneously, benefiting from shared learning experiences and networking opportunities.

How does a cohort analyst typically collaborate with other departments to ensure data-driven decision making?

A Cohort Analyst often works closely with teams such as marketing, product management, and customer success to interpret and share cohort analysis insights. They collaborate by providing actionable reports on user behavior over time, helping other departments identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Regular meetings and cross-functional projects are common, enabling analysts to tailor their findings to the specific needs of each team. This collaborative approach ensures that strategic decisions are supported by accurate, timely data.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a cohort, and why are they important?

Job description

Description

She's Built for This ย  ย Black Girls Code Bay Area ย  ย Fall 2026

Position: Cohort Facilitatorย

Team: Programs

Location: San Francisco, CA (Bay Area)

Who We Are

Our mission is to enable Black girls, youth, and women with the tools, confidence, and opportunities to thrive in the tech world. Black Girls Code (BGC) is building a future where learners are not just participants in tech-they are leaders, innovators, and decision-makers shaping it. Our mission is to equip students with the skills, confidence, and community they need to thrive in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) fields and ensure they know they belong.ย

About the Program

She's Built for This is a 7-week leadership cohort for Black girls in grades 6-8, launching in the Bay Area this fall. Every Saturday from September 26th through November 7th,2026 a cohort of 24 girls will build their voice, lead real team challenges, and close the program on November 7th by presenting their work in front of their families. The program is grounded in community, hands-on learning, and the belief that these girls are already leaders - they just need the space to prove it.

About the Role

We are looking for a Cohort Facilitator to lead all seven sessions of She's Built for This. This is not a traditional teaching role - it's a facilitation role. You won't be standing at the front of a room delivering content. You'll be in the room with girls, holding space, driving energy, and guiding them through experiences that challenge and grow them. You'll be supported by volunteers at every session, and you'll work closely with the Bay Area Program Manager throughout the program.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate all 7 Saturday sessions from start to finish
  • Review session guides and prepare thoroughly before each session
  • Attend an in-person planning meeting and venue tour with the Program Manager prior to the program launch
  • Attend a virtual coordination meeting with session volunteers before the program begins
  • Manage the flow of each session, keep timing on track, adapt as needed to support participant engagement and program goals
  • Create a warm, inclusive, and energizing environment where every girl feels seen and challenged
  • Participate in a post-cohort debrief with the Program Manager after November 7th
  • Communicate promptly with the Program Manager regarding attendance, logistical issues, or participant concerns.
  • Complete other program-related duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Experience working with youth - middle school age preferred
  • Strong facilitation, public speaking, and communication skills
  • Ability to hold a room, read energy, and adjust in real time
  • Genuine enthusiasm for working with Black girls and a deep commitment to their growth
  • Reliable, organized, and prepared - you take the prep seriously
  • Positive, high-energy presence that girls respond to

Nice to have

  • Background in education, youth development, or community organizing
  • Experience facilitating team-building or leadership programming
  • Familiarity with BGC's mission and community
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electronics and programming
