About the role

As a Senior Python Developer, you will make an impact by designing, building and supporting scalable backend services, APIs and cloud-native applications for enterprise technology initiatives. You will be a valued member of the Digital Engineering team and work collaboratively with technical leaders, product teams and client stakeholders to deliver secure, high-quality software solutions.

In this role, you will:
  • Design, develop and maintain robust backend applications using Python 3.x and modern frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask or Django.
  • Build and integrate REST APIs, GraphQL services and gRPC-based solutions to support enterprise-scale distributed systems.
  • Contribute to microservices architecture, containerized deployments and cloud-native development using Docker, Kubernetes and major cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Develop secure, reliable data access layers and integrations using relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL and MongoDB.
  • Support engineering excellence through Git-based version control, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and Agile delivery practices.

What you need to have to be considered:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 or more years of hands-on Python development experience, including strong knowledge of Python 3.x.
  • 4 or more years of experience designing and implementing microservices and distributed systems.
  • Experience developing backend services using frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask or Django.
  • Experience building and consuming APIs, including REST APIs and related integration patterns.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-native application development and deployment using AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Git, CI/CD pipelines and Agile/Scrum delivery practices.
  • Working knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL and MongoDB.

These will help you stand out:
  • Experience with GraphQL, gRPC or event-driven integration patterns.
  • Hands-on experience with message brokers such as Kafka, RabbitMQ or AWS SQS.
  • Experience writing automated tests using PyTest, Unittest or similar testing frameworks.
  • Ability to troubleshoot performance, reliability and scalability issues across distributed applications.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering and business teams.
Salary and compensation:

The annual salary for this position will be between $80,000 to $135,000 per year depending on the experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
