About the role
An AI Product Owner bridges the gap between business strategy and AI development, acting as the primary owner of the product backlog for AI-driven solutions. Unlike a traditional Product Owner, this role requires specialized knowledge of machine learning, data quality, and model performance to ensure AI applications are accurate, ethical, and valuable.
In this role you will
  • Product Strategy & Roadmap: Define the vision and roadmap for AI features (e.g., recommendation engines, chatbots) that align with business goals.
  • Backlog Management: Define, prioritize, and maintain the AI product backlog, creating actionable user stories and acceptance criteria based on experimental data.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the central hub between stakeholders, data scientists, machine learning engineers, and designers, facilitating technical understanding and business feasibility.
  • Model Performance & Evaluation: Monitor AI model performance post-launch, tracking KPIs such as accuracy, false-positive rates, automation rates, and cost-per-transaction.
  • Data & Ethical Governance: Ensure data quality and address ethical concerns, such as bias mitigation, data privacy, and compliance with regulations like GDPR or the EU AI Act.
  • Agile Delivery: Participate in all Scrum ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives) to guide the delivery team.
    Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience: 3-5+ years in a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or similar role, with direct experience in AI, Machine Learning, or data science projects.
  • AI Acumen: Understanding of LLMs, Generative AI, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), and MLOps to make informed technical trade-offs.
  • Technical Familiarity: Proficiency in data tools (SQL, Python) to analyze data and communicate efficiently with engineers.
  • Communication: Ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable business requirements and vice-versa

Work Model

Based on this role's business requirements, this is a position requires 3-4 days a week in a client office (Washington DC). Compensation
  • $86,500-$101,500
  • This position is eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans
