Job description

About the Position:

The Coding Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely assignment of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes, as well as DRG and APC groupings for inpatient, outpatient, and clinic encounters. This role ensures that coding practices support optimal reimbursement, regulatory compliance, and quality reporting. A strong understanding of coding guidelines, documentation requirements, and federal regulations is essential to ensure integrity and accuracy in the health record.

What we are looking for:

Education and Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited Health Information Management (HIM) program or Certified Coding Specialist program.
  • Must hold a current coding credential, which may include: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CCA, CPC-H, and/or CPC-P.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of official coding guidelines, coding systems, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with coding software, encoders, and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must possess one or more of the following current and valid credentials:

  • RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator)
  • RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician)
  • CCS (Certified Coding Specialist)
  • CCS-P (Certified Coding Specialist โ€“ Physician-based)
  • CCA (Certified Coding Associate)
  • CPC-H (Certified Professional Coder โ€“ Hospital Outpatient)
  • CPC-P (Certified Professional Coder โ€“ Payer)
