Job description

Under general supervision, a Certified Professional Coder is responsible for correctly coding professional healthcare claims in order to obtain reimbursement from private insurance companies and government healthcare programs. This is NOT a remote position.


May include any and/or all of the following:

  1. Accurately enter patient information into LifeLinc’s billing software.
  2. Verify patient insurance is valid and active.
  3. Organize files and collect data to be entered.
  4. Analyze and verify data for errors.
  5. Report problems with data received or missing data.
  6. Follow-up on data that has not been received.
  7. Keep sensitive patient and company information confidential.
  8. Appropriately compose and type routine correspondence, memos, letters, etc.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required
  • Minimum of 1-year related experience, training, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Excellent computer skills are required
  • Excellent filing skills are required
  • 35 wpm typing proficiency and 10-key by touch is required
  • Familiarity with CPT-4 and ICD-10 coding is preferred
  • Experience verifying insurance

  • Must be able to read and write English
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence for the needs of the audience
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to supervisors, patients, patient's family and other employees of the organization
  • Able to work in a team-oriented environment

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to recognize when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong and react accordingly to the situation

 

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have excellent computer literacy skills
  • Must be skilled in MS Word and Excel
  • Proficient 10-key by touch
  • Typing proficiency of 40 wpm
