Job description

Job Title: Quality Supervisor

Department: Quality Assurance

Reports To: Quality Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary: The Quality Inspection Supervisor is responsible for leading the internal quality team specifically supporting the day-to-day operational excellence initiatives in the factory by leading efforts to reduce defects in the process and improving the outgoing quality of the product. The Quality Inspection Supervisor is responsible for facilitating the development, evaluation and improvement of the Inspection team and manufacturing processes, methodologies, tools, and leadership techniques at their assigned site.  This role will report to the Quality Manager and function as a supervisor with direct reports. The Quality Supervisor will also support strategic, operational, and financial objectives at the assigned site while supporting growth and expansion projects. This will be accomplished through the implementation of Lean methodologies, tools, and leadership techniques.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for internal quality improvements aligned with Cobalt’s Core Values.
  • Lead activities, partnering with the operations team, that will aid in the reduction of the internal Defects per Unit metric.
  • Manage and provide guidance to employees engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure high productivity and high technical integrity.
  • Coordinate implementation of testing and inspection procedures throughout operations.
  • Lead and mentor Inspectors and team members to solve quality issues and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead and participate in Continuous Improvement Events.
  • Support quality performance metrics by gathering relevant data and use it to drive improvement efforts within the factory.
  • Ensuring product/process tests and procedures are properly understood, carried out and evaluated and that product/process modifications are investigated if necessary.
  • Manage and maintain quality inspection and product release programs for in-process materials and finished goods.
  • Make recommendations and participate in training problem solving teams to improve the efficiency or effectiveness of the Quality and Manufacturing Systems.
  • Support implementation and analysis of process and product metrics.
  • Miscellaneous Responsibilities/Activities:
  • Conduct training/provide coaching on QA orientation, auditing, corrective action initiation/response, improving quality and other on-the-job training, as appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain effective communications, both written and oral.

  • Excellent PC skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, AS400, and other manufacturing-related software.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general Engineering documents and specifications. Ability to generate reports, business correspondence, work instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, employees, and vendors.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to compile and present data in a format that facilitates information sharing and decision making.

Education and/or Experience                                                   

High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills                                                

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.

Excellent communication skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally, both orally and written.

Mathematical Skills                                                     

General math skills required.

Reasoning Ability                                             

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee will also work in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment ranges from quiet to moderate.
