Job Title: Inspector

Department: Quality Assurance

Reports To: Department Supervisor

FLSA Status: Hourly

Summary: With minimal supervision, the Inspector is responsible for assuring conformance to Cobalt Engineering and Quality assurance requirements for manufacturing and installation of components.  This role will report to the Quality Supervisor/Manager and function as an individual contributor.  The Inspector will also support strategic, operational, and financial objectives at the assigned site while supporting the production process to assist in preventing reoccurrences of quality escapes into the production process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform and/or assists with internal layered process audits.
  • Support customer issues, quality audits, MRB, Quality initiatives.
  • Provide support for supplier rejections, stock purge of defective parts and initiate the corrective action process. 
  • Ability to train team members on Inspection and RCCA process
  • Perform follow up reviews to validate conformance to engineering and quality acceptance criteria as appropriate    
  • Make recommendations and participate in training problem solving teams to improve the efficiency or effectiveness of the Quality and Manufacturing Systems.
  • Support implementation and analysis of process and product metrics.
  • Miscellaneous Responsibilities/Activities:
    • Conduct training/provide coaching on QA acceptance criteria, corrective action, and other on-the-job training, as appropriate.
    • Establish and maintain effective communications, both written and oral.

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, on individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Minimal PC skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, with emphasis in excel.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with multiple priorities and shifting time requirements. Must be able to promote a participative, team-oriented environment, working with customers (both internal and external), all employees, vendors, and others in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general Engineering documents and specifications. Ability to generate reports, business correspondence, work instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, employees, and vendors.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to compile and present data in a format that facilitates information sharing and decision making.

Education and/or Experience                                                   

High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills                                                

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.

Excellent communication skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally, both orally and written.

Mathematical Skills                                                     

General math skills required.

Reasoning Ability                                             

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee must be able to work on the manufacturing floor as required to interact with employees, customers, and suppliers to review manufacturing and quality processes. The employee also will work in the plant to collect data, investigate, and solve problems. Employee will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when on the shop floor. The employee will also be able to work in any area assigned to support company objectives. The noise level in the work environment ranges from quiet to moderate.
