About the Opportunity
Northeastern University is a national leader in cooperative education in which students alternate between academic study and work experiences. The Office of the Chancellor is seeking a Co-op Faculty Coordinator to work with students, with an initial focus on College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH). This position is a full-time, non-tenure track, 12-month faculty position. You will join a cross-disciplinary team of 6+ highly motivated, professional, collaborative individuals as part of a broader graduate co-op community and work in close collaboration with the graduate academic advising team and colleagues within Northeastern's network.
Responsibilities:
Education of Students: The Co-op Coordinator educates students through their career development. They educate, advise, and coach students, developing and delivering effective teaching and coaching programs that enable students to be successful in today's global business environment. This includes, but is not limited to, working with students one-on-one, in workshops and in the classroom.
The Co-op Coordinator teaches a career education course each semester, and coaches students through group and individual meetings. Classroom preparation includes teaching interviewing skills, professional behavior and communication, workplace ethics, and as well as leadership skills and self-awareness and emotional intelligence development.
The Co-op Coordinator also maintains contact with students while engaged in their co-op experience and works with students through their post-co-op reflection.
Integrated Learning: Cooperative education is an integral part of the academic experience at Northeastern and our philosophy is that learning in the classroom is enriched by practical experience, and practical experience enriches classroom learning. The Coordinator collaborates with academic faculty, administration, and the co-op community to guide students in the integration of their co-op and academic experiences. The Co-op Coordinator shares knowledge of industry with academic faculty to integrate employment-based learning with curriculum-based learning.
Employer Relations/Job Development: The Co-op Coordinator develops new partnerships and expands current employer programs by engaging with managers, human resources contacts, and alumni. They engage in lifelong learning to develop and maintain a current understanding of the industry, employers, and positions. Activities to support this endeavor include site visits to new and existing employers, outreach to potential new co-op employer partners, and active participation in relevant professional organizations. High-level customer-orientation, strong presentation skills, and experience in building and maintaining client relationships is essential. Prior professional experience in industry is preferred.
Service:The Co-op Coordinator also engages in service to the Cooperative Education department, College of Social Sciences and Humanities, and to Northeastern University. Service includes making presentations to prospective students and newly admitted students; participation on committees and task forces; and serving as an advisor to student organizations.
Qualifications:
  • A master's degree in college student development, counseling, education, psychology or related industry field is required by the appointment start date, as well as a minimum of three years work experience.
  • Teaching experience in a classroom environment or comparable experience with presentation skills in a business or workshop environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and comfort presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Experience working with a varied staff and/or student population.
  • Proficiency in computer/technology and database maintenance, with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of cooperative education and/or experiential learning and its impact on an individual's career development.
  • Ability to effectively engage a diverse network of global stakeholders, across time zones.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • An academic degree in a related profession, or experience in career development and counseling of social science and humanities students.
  • Experience as a career coach, certification preferable, but not required
  • Professional experience in a relevant field a plus
  • Experience working with an international student population
  • Familiarity with and interest in emerging career-relevant technologies, including Generative AI

Pay Range:
Assistant Coop Coordinator: $66,000.00 - $80,000.00 | Associate Coop Coordinator: $73,000.00 - $93,000.00
With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role.
