What is a CMS manager?

CMS Managers, or Content Management System Managers, are professionals responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and strategy of a company's content management system. They ensure that digital content, such as website pages, articles, and media, is organized, updated, and published efficiently. CMS Managers often coordinate with writers, designers, and developers to maintain the site's functionality and user experience. Their role also includes managing user permissions, troubleshooting technical issues, and optimizing content for SEO and accessibility.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CMS manager?

To thrive as a CMS Manager, you need expertise in content management systems (such as WordPress, Drupal, or Sitecore), web content strategy, and a solid understanding of HTML/CSS, often supported by a degree in communications, IT, or a related field. Familiarity with web analytics tools, SEO best practices, and workflow automation platforms is typically expected. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective cross-team communication help a CMS Manager excel in managing diverse content and stakeholders. These skills ensure seamless content operations, optimized user experiences, and alignment with business objectives.

How does a CMS manager typically collaborate with content creators and IT teams to ensure smooth website operations?

As a CMS Manager, you will frequently act as a bridge between content creators and technical teams. You’ll coordinate with writers and editors to ensure content is uploaded and formatted correctly, while also working closely with IT specialists to troubleshoot technical issues, implement updates, and maintain site security.
