Manager of Clinical Services
Position Overview
The Manager of Clinical Services (MCS) is an experienced nurse and the administrator of the local St. Croix Hospice branch, leading the clinical care team responsible for patient care in their community. The manager is a Registered Nurse, managing the clinical team to ensure patient care is coordinated and managed appropriately. As a leader the Manager of Clinical Services hires and manages branch staff, and provides direction, oversight and leadership to the team. In this role you have the opportunity to establish and lead a positive culture of caregiving focused on providing hospice patients and families with enhanced quality of life and cultivating a workplace environment where employees know they work where they matter.
Essential Functions and Skills
  • Receives case referrals. Reviews available patient information related to case, including home visits, to determine hospice/home care needs. Assigns appropriate hospice personnel to case as needed. Conferences with Medical Director or Hospice Physician regarding any questions about an individual's eligibility for services.
  • Reviews and evaluates each case through a variety of means such as home visits, conferences, record review and the services provided by clinicians; discusses and verifies impressions, instructs and guides clinicians to promote more effective performance and delivery of quality hospice care services.
  • Available at all times during operating hours to assist clinicians as appropriate.
  • Accountable for overall business management, committed to advancing growth initiatives while managing costs, including medical expenses, DME, and supplies; actively contributes to building and expanding the business.
  • Reviews patient's medical diagnosis, prognosis, medications, procedures, and clinical course.
  • Assist clinicians in establishing immediate and long-term therapeutic goals, in setting priorities, and in developing Plan of Care.
  • Conducts quarterly record reviews and communicates findings and recommendations to the Regional Director of Clinical Operations and hospice personnel.
  • Assists in the screening and interviewing process of new employees and makes recommendations for the employment of individuals. Assists in the orientation of new employees.
  • Hires, evaluates, and terminates organization personnel under the delegation of the Regional Director of Clinical Operations and/or Administrator.
  • Conducts annual evaluations on clinicians, or more frequently if indicated, under the delegation of the Director of Clinical operations and/or Administrator.
  • Oversee the maintenance of patient clinical records, statistics, reports and records for purposes of evaluation and reporting of organizational activities.
  • Assures proper maintenance of clinical records in compliance with local, state and federal laws.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of an adequate and appropriate inventory of supplies and equipment for the provision of patient services.
  • Assists Regional Director of Clinical Operations and other supervisory hospice personnel in the planning, implementation and evaluation of in-service and continuing education programs. Assists in implementing organization policies, procedures, goals and objectives, both short and long range.
  • Complies with accepted professional standards and principles.
  • Assesses the health needs of the community and assists in the development of plan(s)/ program(s) to meet needs. Participates in public relations and community activities that promote the organization's role as an effective member of the hospice and health care delivery system.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Duties
  • Participate in on-call duties as defined by the on-call policy.
  • Attend interdisciplinary group meetings.
  • Assumes responsibility for personal growth and development. Maintains and upgrades professional knowledge and practice skills through attendance and participation in continuing education and in- service classes.
  • Actively participates in quality assessment and performance improvement teams and activities as assigned.

Requirements/Qualifications
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in state(s) of practice.
  • Nurses holding a multistate license can practice in other states without obtaining additional licenses while maintaining their Registered Nurse (RN) license in their primary state of residence (PSOR). Minnesota, Michigan, and Illinois are not in the Nursing Licensure Compact.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Ability to pass background, consumer report and drug test.
  • Valid State Driver's License, access to an automobile in good working order, automobile insurance in accordance with state and organizational requirements, and an acceptable driving record required.

Preferred
  • 1+ years management experience, preferably in a home care setting preferred.
  • 2+ years' experience in Nursing, preferred

  • Pushing/Pulling and Lifting/carrying up to 30 pounds. Occasionally up to 50 pounds.
