Director of Financial Planning

Primary Objective

To lead the firm’s financial planning function by delivering comprehensive client advisory services, managing planning staff and workflows, and driving strategic growth through wealth management, exit planning, and planning technology integration. We seek a motivated, curious, humble, smart, and hungry-to-learn professional who is eager to grow and consistently pursue excellence in this leadership role.
This is a hybrid role, requiring at least three days per week working in the office to foster collaboration and maintain a high level of service for both clients and team members.
Client-Facing Financial Planning
  • Serve as lead planner for high-value clients, delivering full-spectrum financial plans including:
    • Retirement and estate planning
    • Tax optimization and cash flow management 
    • Education and insurance planning
  • Conduct quarterly and annual reviews, scenario modeling, and plan updates.
  • Take client meetings both in-office and online to maintain strong relationships and service continuity.
  • Take prospecting meetings with potential clients to assess fit and introduce planning services.
  • Ensure timely delivery of client planning deliverables and follow-through on action items.
  • Coordinate with tax and accounting teams for integrated execution.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Supervise one junior planner and support staff involved in financial planning.
  • Provide mentorship and training aligned with CFP Board standards.
  • Ensure planning deliverables meet quality and compliance standards.
Technology & AI Adoption
  • Champion the use of AI tools to enhance planning workflows, improve client outcomes, and streamline data analysis.
  • Support AI-driven planning initiatives and training for staff.
Strategic Planning & Growth
  • Collaborate with leadership on long-range planning initiatives including:
  • Staffing transitions and succession planning 
  • Cloud migration and software integration 
  • Development of planning tools and calculators[5]
  • Participate in business development efforts and support top-tier client relationships.
Compliance & Oversight
  • Ensure planning practices align with CFP Board ethics, fiduciary standards, and regulatory requirements[1].
  • Monitor legislative changes and update planning strategies accordingly.
 Performance Expectations
  • Maintain a book of business with consistent monthly billable hours.
  • Target 70–100 billable hours per month through planning engagements, implementation, onboarding, and specialized services.
  • Contribute to firm revenue through planning engagement and strategic consulting.
  • Support client retention and upsell opportunities.
 Qualifications
  • CFP designation required; CPA or EA a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in financial planning or advisory services.
  • Strong technical knowledge in retirement, estate, tax, and investment planning.
  • Experience with planning software RightCapital, Blackrock, and interactive brokers
  • Excellent communication and client relationship skills.
  • Comfortable with emerging technologies and excited to leverage AI tools to improve planning workflows and client service.
  • Candidates should be personable, empathetic, and able to adapt their communication style to meet diverse client needs.
  • Solid understanding of personal tax and planning is essential, including the ability to navigate complex tax situations and optimize strategies for individual clients. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in identifying tax-saving opportunities and integrating tax considerations into holistic financial plans.
