Customs Clearance Manager

As a Customs Clearance Manager at Kuehne+Nagel, your job is to optimise logistics to keep our global supply chains running smoothly. But the impact of your work goes beyond that. It's import and export work, but it's also so much more than we imagine.
As Customs Clearance Manager you will oversee import compliance, documentation, and regulatory adherence to ensure smooth, legal, and timely cargo movement. This includes managing customs team, classifying tariffs, ensuring compliance with local/international laws, and optimizing brokerage processes to reduce delays.
How you create impact
  • Manage P&L and drive department growth through effective staff development.
  • Improve customer experience and prepare reports, including customer business reviews.
  • Conduct internal and external meetings and perform audit reviews on all assigned brokerage files, including payments to customs.
  • Maintain and update all customs compliance documentation, ensuring timely and accurate entry filing.
  • Conduct onboarding meetings with clients and create Client Profiles and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Optimize SSC and NBSC processes to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Review and monitor all customs rejections, Requests for Information (RFIs), government agency inquiries, and related correspondence.
  • Adhere to all domestic and international shipping regulations, ensuring timely communication with overseas offices.

What we would like you to bring
  • A Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Business Administration, or a related logistics field
  • 4+ years of experience in customs brokerage in freight forwarding industry, with at least 2-3 years in a management or supervisory capacity
  • Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) designation is needed
  • Expertise in HTS classification, U.S. Customs regulations, and trade compliance
  • Strong analytical thinking, leadership ability, and proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., BlueJay/CargoWise)
  • Strong ability to manage teams and work under tight deadlines

Base salary is part of a competitive total rewards package that includes health and welfare benefits, a 401k retirement savings plan, tuition reimbursement, and incentive compensation for eligible roles. Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by a number of factors including experience, skills, job location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations.
