Job description

The Risk and Claims Specialist provides administrative and technical support to the Risk and Claims Manager. The essential and critical functions include answering calls, initial processing of new claims, maintaining accurate digital files, managing high-volume correspondence and acts as a primary point of contact for injured workers. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, maintains a professional and caring demeanor, listens well, provides excellent customer service and manages sensitive medical and financial data with strict confidentiality.
Job Duties:
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by the Risk and Claims
Specialist, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. The Risk and Claims Specialist may not
be required to perform all duties listed below and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
• Communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing.
• Exercise judgment and discretion and respond in a courteously and tactfully manner in a wide range of situations.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management, physicians, attorneys,
insurance Specialists and the public.
• Manage multiple tasks and shift priorities to meet deadlines as needed.
• Claim Intake & Setup: Establish new claim files in the claims management system; enter demographic data, gather
incident data to submit to TPA.
• Interact with other SA Recycling departments as needed to ensure proper recordkeeping is accurate, current and
maintained.
• Maintain OSHA logs for all SA Recycling locations.
• Able to take directions and follow through on completing tasks within the requested time frame.
• Provide support to all SA Recycling personnel as needed.
• Provide support to all SA Recycling facilities for internal incident reporting software.
• Stay abreast of upgrades and system functionality with software and programs used to support reporting and
recordkeeping management.
• Provide Injury Hotline Support (M-F during working hours).
• Process electronic documents from each party and encode their names for storing them in the database.
• Follow up with management and injured employees throughout a claim to ensure a positive outcome.
• Regular attendance and punctuality are essential job functions.
• Maintain a well-organized workspace.
• Encourage all personnel to work safely and stay healthy.
Qualifications:
• Employees in this position prior to April 2014 are presumed to be qualified and are "grandfathered" into their
positions
• Must pass a medical physical and drug test
• Must pass a background check and credit check
• High school diploma or GED and/or foreign education required
• Associate or bachelor's degree preferred
• Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language are required
• Ability to: communicate with others effectively; understand direction (written or oral) and use basic math skills as
the job demands
• EHS and Risk Management experience preferred
• Knowledge of all Microsoft programs (emphasis in Excel)
• Must have knowledge of Workers' compensation claims handling. Multiple states, desired
