Job description

Actalent is currently seeking a qualified Civil Engineering Technician for a position in Vancouver, WA.

This position as a Civil Engineering Technician offers experienced, technical, organizational, and design support to the Structural and Civil Engineering Group. The role focuses on design project assignments for substation structures, transmission line structures, foundations, and site designs impacting the transmission system. The primary responsibility is coordinating project information, design data, drawings, and documentation between the engineering group and external vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, update, and maintain active project lists within the main transmission portfolio.
  • Assist subject matter experts and contract officers in tracking vendor milestones including design issue dates and construction schedules.
  • Facilitate secure electronic transfer of design criteria and existing drawings to outside vendors per established procedures.
  • Process, index, and track vendor-submitted drawings and documents using databases like ProjectWise and SharePoint.
  • Assist in administering the vendor drawing review system, supporting engineers, and resolving conflicts between specifications and manufacturer drawings.
  • Recommend standards for manufacturer drawings and develop enhanced tracking tools for programs.
  • Create material requests for approval, research manufacturer drawing issues, and maintain standard structure catalog IDs.
  • Support capital project designs using CAD/MicroStation and produce final design packages for review and approval.
  • Coordinate with design engineers to validate project locations and process material requests for authorized approval.
  • Provide technical support for design studies including drainage crossings and bridge structures.
  • Assist with design activities, draft reports, and format presentations using Microsoft Office tools.
  • Convert legacy hard-copy drawings to electronic formats and verify data completeness.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred.
  • 1-year engineering technician experience with demonstrated proficiency in a wide range of project tasks.
  • Experience in researching and converting legacy records into electronic databases.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel for data manipulation and VBA code macro writing.
  • Experience using 2D CAD platforms.
  • Experience working in an engineering project team environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in the Electric Utility sector focusing on structural and civil design.
  • Experience in structural detailing.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation CAD platform and associated products like OpenRoads.
  • Experience maintaining engineering records using ProjectWise or similar software.
  • Knowledge of DOE, BPA, NERC, FERC, and other regulatory agency policies and standards.

This is a Contract position based out of Vancouver, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
