Job description

The individual in this position performs skilled diagnostics, maintenance, and repair work on a variety of large complex and/or specialized machinery used at the City’s Solid Wate Department. Equipment serviced includes, but is not limited to: compactors, D8 and D5 dozers, excavators, shredder, rubber tire tractor/loader, and other heavy-duty comparable equipment.The essential duties include the following:

  • Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems on heavy equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance, including lubrication, adjustments, and fabrication of part or parts replacement, in accordance with manufacturer specifications and City maintenance schedules.
  • Operates welding and cutting equipment to repair frames or other structural components on diesel engines, transmissions, undercarriages and track systems.
  • Details diagnostic findings, repair needs, labor hours and part replacements.
  • Operates field service truck to do repairs where the equipment is located.
  • Reads and interprets technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Ensures all work complies with applicable safety regulations and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Assists with maintaining vehicle maintenance history and inspection records for operational readiness, compliance and audit purposes.
  • Assist with equipment inspections for operational readiness and compliance.
  • Performs related duties.
