Fleet & Safety Manager

Company Location:- West Haven, CT

Status:- Full Time

Floating Schedule 5 DPW:- Days, Evenings, Nights โ€“ 24 Hours Operations

Work Week:- 9am โ€“ 5pm* (Monday - Fridays)

Education:- Degree Preferred

Experience:- 3 Year

Pay:- $70,000 - $90,000 Annually

Position Summary:

City Line Food Distributor is seeking a Fleet & Safety Manager to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be the driving force behind ensuring our transportation operations are safe, compliant, and efficient. You'll oversee fleet management, enforce safety protocols, and coordinate logistics to keep everything running smoothly. The ideal candidate is passionate about safety, experienced in logistics and supply chain management, and eager to make a positive impact on operational excellence. Applicants must have experience & knowledge in the following areas listed below: -

  1. Knowledge and understanding of DOT guidelines and regulations in regards to CDL operations
  2. Hours of Service
  3. Pre-trip inspections
  4. Post-trip inspections
  5. CDL Drug testing and random testing
  6. Knowledge of FMCSA including BASIC
  7. Knowledge of OSHA regulations including posting and submitting recordable events
  8. Employee Safety Training and re-certifications
  9. Claims reporting, handling and managing
  10. Motor vehicle claims.
  11. Workmanโ€™s compensation claims for all employees
  12. Claims investigation for all insurance lines to find root cause and implementation of best practices to reduce or eliminate future claims
  13. Facility safety including fire protection, employee safety, equipment safety
  14. Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) training and management
  15. Rack and infrastructure inspections to identify required repairs
  16. Monitoring and ensuring proper use of safety equipment
  17. Knowledge of Samsara fleet monitoring system or similar system
  18. Identify driver safety issues and make corrective action
  19. Self-motivated individual
  20. Highly organized individual
  21. Floating schedule - to be a presence for a three shift 24-hour operation
  22. Three early morning days to meet with drivers in the morning before they leave for their routes
  23. Two early afternoons to early evening nights to meet with night shift
  24. Emergency Planning
  25. Hazard and chemical safety

Job Overview:

  • Dispatching and coaching safety issues to all drivers in morning
  • Pre-employment safety evaluations include road test, pallet test, proper ergonomic lifting.
  • Smith training and new driver safety orientation
  • Customer Service and driver support while on the road
  • Knowledge and enforcement of all OSHA regulations including log posting and submittal.
  • Accident investigation, both auto and W/C for all company departments
  • Drive Cam, Samsara, routing, and Telematics software knowledge
  • Claim and personal management including Auto and W/C for all employees and dept.
  • Implement, oversee, and enforce safety procedures on all shifts and departments.
  • Driver DOT file management and compliance
  • FMCSA SMS compliance
  • Uniform and boot mobile management.
  • Driver Safety meeting includes setting agenda and arranging speakers.

Requirements:

  • CDL
  • Knowledge of DriveCam and Samsara in truck camera systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of the FMCSA, CSA Safety Measurement System (SMS)
  • Must be computer literate including excel and word.
  • Must have knowledge of OSHA and HACCP.
  • Must be self-motivated without requiring direction.
  • Must be able to direct others, set processes and procedures related to safety issues.
  • Must be able to complete daily work requirements.
