Job Description:

About the Team & Mission

The Modern Workloads Platform Engineering team is responsible for enabling enterprise success with VMware Kubernetes Service (vKS) as part of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF). Our mission is to accelerate adoption of vKS as the enterprise-grade Kubernetes platform for modern applications in private cloud.

As a Private Cloud Infra Architect, you will work on the front lines with strategic enterprise customers and Systems Integrators, driving the architectural validation and successful design of VCF deployments. This is a hands-on, architect-level, customer-facing role focused on designing software-defined data centers (SDDC), integrating physical-to-virtual network fabrics, and guiding clients through their data center modernization journeys.

Key Accountabilities

  • Trusted Architectural Advisor: Act as a core advisor for enterprise customers, guiding them through the strategic design, validation, and full-scale deployment of VCF solutions built on vSphere infrastructure platforms.

  • Network Fabric Integration: Design and integrate end-to-end data center Networking Fabrics, ensuring seamless policy alignment and interoperability between physical underlay networks (such as Cisco ACI) and software-defined overlay architectures (VMware NSX).

  • Kubernetes Networking Solutions: Deliver resilient solution architectures for Kubernetes networking, managing advanced configurations for IP Address Management (IPAM), container-native egress/ingress traffic, and cloud-native microservices routing.

  • Enterprise Load Balancing: Architect high-availability application delivery networks using AVI, NSX Load Balancers, F5 BIG-IP, and Citrix Netscaler systems within complex, multi-tenant private cloud environments.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with field account teams and Systems Integrator partners to jointly develop customer proposals that address virtualization scaling, workload placement, and physical-to-virtual operational transformations.

  • Technical Leadership & Discovery: Lead technical discovery sessions, interactive architecture workshops, and complex proof-of-concepts to validate network routing, security zoning, and VCF platform architectures.

  • Asset & Pattern Creation: Build, standardize, and share reusable reference architectures, deployment patterns, and technical assets to accelerate customer adoption of VCF enterprise infrastructure.

  • Product Alignment: Stay highly current on industry trends, competitive landscapes, and evolving enterprise hybrid cloud requirements to continuously provide product feedback to management and engineering teams.

Required Skills & Experience

Core Technical Acumen

  • Deep technical acumen: Proven architecture expertise on VMware Cloud Foundation core infrastructure products, including advanced vSphere deployment, vSAN storage architectures, and automated SDDC Manager operations. Experience with Kubernetes Platform Engineering (EKS, AKS, RH OCP/OPP, Rancher), consulting or technical sales for Enterprise IT.

  • Advanced Networking Fabrics: Deep design and implementation experience with enterprise networking fabrics, particularly Cisco ACI (including APIC, EPGs, and contracts) and VMware NSX software-defined infrastructures.

  • Cloud-Native Networking: Demonstrated solutions experience managing Kubernetes-native networking constructs, ensuring reliable ingress controllers, egress controls, and CNI multi-tenancy configurations.

  • L4-L7 Application Delivery: Technical mastery over enterprise-tier load balancing and traffic management, with deep routing integration knowledge spanning NSX Advanced Load Balancers, AVI, F5, or Citrix Netscaler platforms.

Experience & Leadership

  • Professional Experience: 12+ years in technology-related engineering or consulting roles, with explicit depth in enterprise IT architecture, data center SDN, or private cloud infrastructure platforms.

  • Customer-Facing Delivery: Proven success working directly alongside enterprise customers and global Systems Integrators to deliver technical solutions and drive platform adoption.

  • Communication & Storytelling: Excellent presentation, storytelling, and interpersonal skills with the ability to comfortably articulate infrastructure complexities in clear business terms to executive decision-makers.

  • Dynamic Collaboration: Enthusiastic, self-starting professional with the agility to work hand-in-hand with multi-disciplinary sales and engineering teams to advance strategic client opportunities.

  • Strategic Assets: Experience with vertical industry specializations (e.g., Financial Services, Telecommunications) or recognized thought leadership in software-defined data centers is considered a strong plus.

  • Travel Flexibility: Ability to travel up to 60% of the time to support on-site architectural workshops and client deployments.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field; or equivalent practical data center experience.

  • Core Knowledge: Deep, verifiable knowledge of VMware enterprise products, software-defined data center virtualization paradigms, and modern container networking architectures.

  • Certifications: Highly desirable professional credentials include VMware Certified Professional / Advanced Professional tracks (VCP-VCF Architect, VCAP-NV), Cisco certifications (CCIE/CCNP Data Center), or relevant public cloud network architecture paths (AWS, Azure, Red Hat OpenShift)
