Overview
Apex Systems is seeking a Network Engineer for a long-term contract-to-hire opportunity supporting a large enterprise organization. This role will join the Infrastructure & Security team and work closely with network leadership to support critical network modernization initiatives, with a primary focus on Cisco Umbrella administration, deployment, and support.
The selected candidate will support enterprise network operations, security initiatives, firewall modernization efforts, and infrastructure projects across a multi-site environment. The ideal candidate will be an experienced network professional who can quickly contribute with minimal ramp-up time.
Location

  • Hybrid schedule (3 days onsite / 2 days remote)
  • Occasional travel as needed

Primary Responsibilities
Cisco Umbrella Administration (Highest Priority)
  • Support enterprise-wide Cisco Umbrella deployment initiatives
  • Troubleshoot application connectivity issues through Umbrella
  • Create and manage policies, rules, filtering controls, and exceptions
  • Coordinate with vendors and support teams to resolve connectivity issues
  • Assist with migration of additional business systems into Umbrella
  • Document configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting efforts
  • Support ongoing Umbrella expansion across the organization
Network Infrastructure Support
  • Configure and support Cisco networking environments
  • Support routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, and core network services
  • Assist with firewall initiatives and security-related projects
  • Maintain network availability across multiple sites
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues
  • Participate in infrastructure upgrades and modernization projects
Data Center & Infrastructure Operations
  • Rack and stack network equipment
  • Install switches and related infrastructure hardware
  • Manage fiber and cabling connections
  • Support data center operations
  • Assist with equipment deployment and maintenance efforts
Required Qualifications
Must Have
  • 5+ years of Network Engineering or Network Administration experience
  • Strong Cisco networking experience
  • Hands-on Cisco Umbrella administration experience
  • Experience creating policies and rules within Cisco Umbrella
  • Experience troubleshooting production network environments
  • Strong routing and switching experience
  • VPN support experience
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
