Reporting to the Associate Vice President for the Library and Learning Commons, the Resource Sharing Specialist is a member of the circulation staff, working typically from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, with occasional weekend/evening shifts during semesters and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at other times. The Resource Sharing Specialist coordinates Interlibrary Loan services and copyright clearance, oversees Goucher's Library of Things, and updates information in the library's integrated library system. In addition, the Resource Sharing Specialist helps staff the day-to-day operations of the library's circulation unit, delivering prompt, courteous service that helps meet the information needs of students, faculty, and staff.

Essential Job Functions:
50 % A. Resource Sharing and Copyright
  • Obtains and delivers both physical and electronic research materials not held by Goucher College to patrons and supplies items held by Goucher College to other libraries typically through Interlibrary loan or open access materials.
  • Serves as the library's main contact with the Copyright Clearance Center and works with the Associate Vice President for the Library and Learning Commons to keep the campus community informed about copyright law.
  • Serves as the main contact for faculty needing to have materials copied in an accessible way for placement in their courses in the learning management system.
  • Communicates with patrons to clarify needs, explain options, and resolve issues relating to resource sharing or copyright. Coordinates with the Circulation Supervisor when student workers or part-time library staff are needed to assist with resource-sharing tasks.
  • Adapts to technology changes and develops expertise with specialized software applications and national library network services, including the need to exercise independent judgment over mechanisms and workflows for efficient and cost-effective borrowing and lending.
  • Creates and maintains process and procedure documentation related to resource sharing and provides training as appropriate.
  • Prepares and analyzes statistical reports about resource sharing.

40 % B. Staffing the Library Services Desk
  • Provides direct service at the desk: check-out/check-in, account troubleshooting, policy explanations, complaint resolution, basic reference/directional/technical assistance.
  • Assists with supervision and training of student workers and serves as a liaison between the Circulation Supervisor and part-time evening workers.
  • Assists in the review and updating of Library Service Desk procedures and policies and updates information in the integrated library system.
  • Works evening and weekend shifts as needed, typically filling in when others are on leave and rotating Sunday shifts with other library staff.
  • Back-up for Circulation Supervisor.

5 % C. Library of Things
• Has responsibility for the Library of Things (LofT), including maintaining existing Things, identifying new or replacement Things to purchase and working with appropriate staff to acquire and catalog them, ensuring that information available online relating to the LofT is accurate, and whatever else may be needed to keep it running smoothly.
3 % D. Administrative Support
• Assists with library special projects as needed.
• Serves on library and college committees.
• Keeps up to date on both campus and library-specific software.
• Other duties as assigned.
