Senior Metallurgist

Our people division is growing, and we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Metallurgist to join the Goldstrike Roaster team. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and support to optimize metallurgical processes, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure the operation meets production, recovery, and safety targets.

Responsibilities:

Process Optimization:

  • Lead efforts to optimize the crushing, dry milling, roasting, off gas handling, and CIL circuits for improved gold recovery, throughput, and reagent consumption.
  • Monitor metallurgical performance KPIs and implement corrective actions when deviations occur.

Troubleshooting and Problem Solving

  • Address process upsets and collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to identify root causes and implement solutions.
  • Analyze data from roaster and downstream circuits to identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement.

Technical Leadership:

  • Provide technical expertise and support to the operations team.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for process-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
  • Assist developing and mentoring junior metallurgical engineers and technicians, fostering technical growth and knowledge transfer.
  • Provide training and guidance to operations staff on safe and effective metallurgical practices.

Project Management:

  • Manage metallurgical projects from conception through to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, maintenance, and operations, to achieve project objectives.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Analyze metallurgical data and prepare detailed technical reports.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) for process performance.
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior management and other stakeholders.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:

  • Ensure all metallurgical activities comply with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the metallurgical team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in metallurgical operations, with a strong preference for experience in roasting, calcine leaching, or refractory gold processing.
  • Solid understanding of roasting chemistry, calcine handling, leaching, and CIL processes.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, process control systems, and metallurgical accounting.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor teams effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with operational improvement frameworks like Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of advanced process modeling tools (e.g., METSIM, PI ProcessBook).
  • Hands-on experience with metallurgical test work and pilot-scale trials.
  • Understanding of wear-resistant materials and their application in refractory gold processing.
  • Knowledge of gas handling, emissions control technologies and environmental compliance in metallurgical operations.
