Store Manager Job Description

The Store Manager leads daily operations for a tobacco, vape, and accessories retail store with a strong focus on premium cigar sales. This role builds and coaches a sales-driven team, maintains humidor and merchandising standards, and ensures strict compliance with all tobacco/vape regulations and age-verification requirements. The Store Manager is accountable for sales, margin, labor, inventory, and a safe, organized store.

Direct Reports: Assistant Manager/Keyholders and Sales Associates

Store Manager Duties and Responsibilities

  • Run daily store operations (service, merchandising, cleanliness, and execution) across tobacco, vape, and accessories
  • Drive premium cigar sales and maintain humidor standards (quality, rotation, temperature/humidity targets, and presentation)
  • Ensure compliant operations at all times (age verification/ID checks, required signage, marketing restrictions, and recordkeeping as required)
  • Hire, train, coach, and schedule the team; set selling standards for premium cigars and vape/accessories (including battery safety) and reinforce responsible retailing
  • Manage results with KPIs and reporting (sales mix, margin, humidor turns, attachment, shrink, and loyalty where applicable); recognize wins and address gaps
  • Control inventory and shrink (receiving, counts, stocking, and high-value product controls for cigars, vape devices/e-liquids where applicable, and accessories)
  • Execute vendor/brand programs and in-store events where permitted, following all promotional compliance rules
  • Manage labor, cash controls, and store expenses; protect margin through disciplined discounting and accurate excise/tax handling per policy

Store Manager Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma/equivalent (degree preferred)
  • 2+ years retail management experience; tobacco/premium cigar and/or vape/accessories experience preferred
  • Compliance-focused leader (age verification/ID checks, required signage, marketing restrictions, and safe handling/storage expectations including battery safety)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed)
  • Strong leader and coach; calm, professional, and accountable under pressure
