Pastor/Director of Youth and Family Ministries

Job Description

Position Summary

The Director of Youth and Family Ministries provides Christ-centered leadership for ministries serving children, youth, and their families. A person with full ministry credentialing would be welcome and retain the title of Pastor for this position. This individual is responsible for developing and leading a vibrant discipleship ministry that helps children and students know Jesus Christ, grown in their faith, and become lifelong disciples.

Working closely with the Senior Pastor, church staff, and volunteer leaders, the Director of Youth and Family Ministries will cultivate meaningful relationships with families, equip parents as the primary spiritual leaders in the home, and create opportunities for worship, discipleship, fellowship, service, and outreach that reflect the mission and values of the Global Methodist Church.

Accountable to the Senior Pastor and SPRC through collaboration and evaluation.

Time Commitment and Salary:

• Full Time – with office hours at least 2 days/week

• This position requires regular Sunday participation, evening programming, and occasional weekend retreats, camps, mission trips, and conferences. Flexibility in scheduling is expected.

• Pay is commensurate on experience/education

• Additional Benefits: possibility of housing and/or tuition reimbursement

Requirements:

• A personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

• Commitment to the beliefs and ministry of the Global Methodist Church.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Theology or related field or 2 or more years towards degree

• Must be able to pass background check to work with children, youth, and vulnerable adults

• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

• Ability to recruit, equip, and lead volunteers.

• Passion for discipling the next generation and partnering with families.

• Experience planning retreats, camps, mission trips, and family events.

• Ability to utilize technology and social media for ministry communication.

• Willingness to participate in continuing education based upon the church’s vison, mission, and beliefs

Primary Responsibilities:

Spiritual Leadership

• Model a vibrant and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

• Support and uphold the doctrine, mission, and values of the Global Methodist Church.

• Create an environment where children, youth, and families experience God’s love and are encouraged to grow as disciples.

Children’s Ministry

• Lead, or oversee and support, children’s ministry.

• Recruit, train, and encourage volunteer leaders and teachers.

• Ensure safe, engaging, and biblically sound programming on Sundays and during special events.

• Coordinate, or oversee and support, Vacation Bible School and other seasonal children’s programs.

Youth Ministry

• Lead, or oversee and support, ministries for middle school and high school students.

• Lead, or oversee and support, weekly youth gatherings, Bible studies, small groups, retreats, camps, mission opportunities, and fellowship events.

• Build authentic relationships with students through regular presence at church activities and community events.

• Encourage students to discover and use their spiritual gifts through service and leadership opportunities.

Young Adult Ministry

• Lead, or oversee and support, ministries for graduating high school seniors that foster continued spiritual growth and active church involvement

• Develop a discipleship pathway for those transitioning from youth to young adult spirituality

Family Ministry

• Develop ministries that strengthen families and encourage faith formation in the home.

• Equip and encourage parents through resources, communication, and discipleship opportunities.

• Plan intergenerational events that foster relationships across the congregation.

• Welcome and connect new families into the life of the church.

Volunteer Development

• Recruit, train, and mentor volunteers for children’s and youth ministries.

• Foster a healthy culture of teamwork, encouragement, and spiritual growth among ministry leaders.

• Ensure volunteers complete required background checks and child protection training.

Outreach and Mission

• Encourage youth and families to participate in local mission projects and global mission opportunities.

• Build relationships with local schools and community organizations.

• Create inviting opportunities for unchurched families to connect with the church.

Administration

• Develop and manage the annual ministry budget.

• Coordinate ministry calendars, communications, registrations, and records.

• Maintain Safe Sanctuaries policies and all child protection procedures.

• Work collaboratively with church staff to support the overall mission of the congregation.
