Job description

Position Purpose
To further the gospel and the mission of Hill Country Christian School by cultivating a Christ-centered and Biblically grounded school community with faculty, staff, students, and parents.
Accountability
Reports to the Head of School
FLSA Status
Exempt, Part-Time (50%)
Qualifications & Skills
  • Committed Christ-follower who upholds the school's Core Values and Statement of Faith
  • Active church attendance aligned with the school's Statement of Faith
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in pastoral ministry, spiritual leadership, Biblical instruction, or pastoral counseling.
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master of Divinity, or similar preferred.

Key Results Areas: The Director of Christian Life will further the mission of HCCSA through:
Theological Stewardship
  • Work with the Head of School and school leadership to uphold and promote sound theology and Biblical alignment across the school and in partnership with Hill Country Bible Church.
  • Collaborate with the Head of School and leadership to promote a culture that is theologically and Biblically grounded and aligned with Hill Country Bible Church.

Faculty Development & Curricular Integration
  • Equip the faculty as scholar-disciples who can masterfully integrate a biblical worldview into the classical curriculum.
  • Coach teachers on integrating Biblical truths and their Christian faith into everyday classroom instruction in ways that point to God as the author of all things.
  • Help lead faculty professional development on Biblical integration, intentional faith-based conversations with students, or general student discipleship.
  • Foster a school environment that prioritizes the spiritual maturity and health of the faculty and staff.

Teaching, Student Discipleship & Leadership Formation
  • Foster a student culture rooted in Christ, where students move beyond head knowledge into spiritual maturity, fostering a "Campus Pastor" model of intentional discipleship.
  • Design and direct an effective student discipleship program that embodies our classical and Christian aspirations.
  • Assist Division Principals in establishing mentorship programs and new opportunities to cultivate young Christian leaders.
  • In collaboration with Principals, provide strategic direction for spiritual rhythms, overseeing the execution and impact of chapel programs, daily devotionals, and student retreats.
  • Teach 2-3 Bible classes, delivering engaging and biblically accurate instruction, and to maintain a direct connection with students.
  • Partner with the Dean of Students to provide spiritual vision for GO Week, fostering a "missions-minded" culture in which students are challenged to put their faith into practice and cultivate a heart of servanthood.

Parent Partnership & Community Ethos
  • Strengthen parent partnership by providing parents with the resources and encouragement needed to fulfill their role as the primary spiritual leaders of their children.
  • In collaboration with the Head of School and the PTF, offer parent education that reflects our mission and core values, and reinforces rather than replaces the role of the church
  • Champion the school's spiritual philosophy, ensuring parents are deeply rooted in the "why" of the school community's ethos and practices.
  • Provide pastoral support to students and families, offering guidance during times of crisis or transition.

Strategic Gatekeeping & Operational Alignment
  • Protect the school from mission drift through vigilant oversight of people and programs.
  • Work with school leadership to ensure school programs align with our mission, statement of faith, and core values.
  • When necessary, work with the Admissions department to ensure theological and mission alignment for incoming families, and occasionally have shepherding conversations with families who do not yet meet our admissions criteria.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position the majority of the time.
  • Frequently move about inside campus buildings and outside on the grounds.
  • Occasional lifting of 5 to 20 pounds.
  • Possible exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.
