AET currently has an opening for a Chief Engineer in Galveston, TX. The Chief Engineer reports to the Captain on operational matters and the Technical Manager on maintenance and technical matters.
The Chief Engineer is the Head of the Engine department and is directly responsible for the general working efficiency and discipline within the Engine department. He or She is directly responsible for all maintenance and repair work on board that are necessary to achieve efficient performance of the main engine, auxiliary machinery and deck machinery including deck winch, emergency generator, anchor windlass, lifeboat davit, lifeboat motor, and tuggers.
Key Accountabilities
โ€ข Ensure that all engineers and engine room ratings are fully acquainted with their duties, standing orders and instructions including emergency procedures.
โ€ข Issue Standing Orders upon joining the vessel. The Chief Engineer shall ensure that all engineers read, understand the orders. The Standing orders are to include an instruction for checking of the Night Order Book daily by duty engineers.
โ€ข Issue Night Orders every night in Chief Engineer's Night Order Book to supplement the existing standing orders.
โ€ข Carry out automation testing per the vessel's automation test procedures booklet.
โ€ข Be fully responsible in ensuring that in respect of the engine room, either the Chief Engineer or the Maintenance Department is on board the vessel at all times.
โ€ข Maintain all engine room logs, monthly reports, running hours, Oil Record Book, Garbage Record Log, fuel samples, oil analysis, and coolant analysis.
โ€ข Monitor and check sludge/bilge tank levels for any abnormal increase.
โ€ข Monitor and know how to operate the Oily Water Separator, check operation and maintenance of pumps, motors and blowers. Check operation of air-conditioning and walk in cooler.
โ€ข Discuss with and advise the Maintenance Department on the upkeep, inspection records, checks, operation, maintenance and spares status of the machinery and equipment they are in charge of.
โ€ข Be on deck during STS Operations to ensure proper operation of the vessel's deck winch and tuggers, until a time the Maintenance Department is deemed competent in said tasks.
โ€ข Maintain housekeeping of engineering spaces and ensure at no time shall there be any garbage, tools, or rags laying throughout the engineering spaces.
โ€ข Oversee the bunkering of the vessel ensuring quantity and quality, proper logs are made in the oil record book, and proper fuel transfer procedures and permits to work are completed

Physical Requirements
