Job description

The Jefferson, Washington DC is seeking a Sous Chef to join the team at our award-winning hotel. The Jefferson celebrates numerous accolades, both for service and our food and beverage program. Most recently, the hotel was ranked among the best in Washington, DC by Travel + Leisure magazine.

Job Summary: The Sous Chef is primarily responsible for daily, hands-on kitchen operations to ensure food items are prepared in accordance with quality standards. Along with the Executive Sous Chef, train, develop and maintain employee skills and relations. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: expediting, menu planning/costing inventory, plate presentation, ordering and employee scheduling/payroll processing.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a member of a culinary management team in a hotel environment, boutique hotel or high-end fine dining
  • Strong knowledge of culinary techniques
  • Must possess strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with Management and employees.
  • Computer literate, especially in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience in a Union environment preferred
  • Scheduling flexibility to include mornings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays
