Job description

School Bus Driver

The Roger Bacon Academy is an education management organization that manages multiple award-winning public charter schools in southeastern North Carolina, including Classical Charter Schools of Southport. Classical Charter Schools of Southport is a public charter school serving students grades K-8. We are seeking outstanding applications for bus driver positions.

The School Bus Driver is responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation of students over a specified route, according to a time schedule, for curriculum and extra-curricular activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow all rules, policies and procedures of Classical Charter Schools of Leland, along with regulations pertaining to the Department of Transportation.
  • Complies with all traffic ordinance.
  • Observes all mandatory safety regulation for school buses.
  • In tandem with the Bus Monitor, maintains discipline when students are on the bus.
  • Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
  • Keeps assigned bus clean.
  • Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects.
  • Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
  • Discharges students only at authorized stops.
  • Transports only authorized students.
  • Reports all accidents and completed required reports.
  • Stays current with state rules and regulations pertaining to driving and transporting students.

School Bus Driver is a non-exempt hourly paid position and is required to clock in and out to ensure accurate record keeping to comply with Department of Labor standards.

Must have a reliable means of communication for quick response to the Office Manager and Headmaster to support effective school operations.

Qualifications:

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Valid North Carolina driver's license with CDL (Commercial Driver's License) endorsement. Also must be covered for personal auto insurance.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to read a map
  • Interpersonal skills for communication with children, bus monitor, parents or other staff.
  • Excellent communication skills: active listening, instruction, speaking.
  • Excellent problem-solving and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
