What does a typical work schedule look like for a Charter Flight Pilot?

Charter Flight Pilots often work variable hours that depend on customer demand, and their schedules can include early mornings, late evenings, weekends, or holidays. Unlike commercial airline pilots, charter pilots may experience both shorter local flights and long-distance trips, with standby periods between assignments. Flexibility is key, as the role involves adapting to last-minute changes and ensuring aircraft readiness on short notice. Pilots also frequently interact directly with clients, ensuring a personalized and safe travel experience. This dynamic and sometimes unpredictable schedule makes the job ideal for those who thrive in a flexible, customer-focused aviation environment.

What is a Charter Flight job?

A Charter Flight job typically involves working for a private aviation company that provides on-demand flights for individuals or groups. Roles in this field can include pilots, flight attendants, dispatchers, and ground crew, all focused on delivering a personalized and flexible travel experience. Unlike commercial airlines, charter flights operate based on client schedules rather than fixed routes. Employees must be adaptable, customer service-oriented, and knowledgeable about safety regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Charter Flight position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Charter Flight Pilot, you need a commercial pilot's license, thorough knowledge of aviation safety protocols, and strong navigation and flight planning skills. Proficiency with advanced avionics, flight management systems, and adherence to FAA regulations is required, alongside possible type ratings for specific aircraft. Excellent customer service, adaptability, and calm decision-making under pressure are vital soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure passenger safety, high service standards, and reliable operations in a dynamic charter flight environment.

Job Title: G200 First Officer (SIC)
Location: Kenosha, WI (ENW)
About George J. Priester Aviation
George J. Priester Aviation is a premier aviation services company providing comprehensive aircraft management, charter, maintenance, and flight operations solutions. With decades of experience supporting owner-managed and client-focused flight departments, we are known for our commitment to safety, professionalism, and white-glove service.
Our team operates in a dynamic Part 135 and Part 91 environment, supporting diverse aircraft types and mission profiles across the U.S. and internationally. At George J. Priester Aviation, we value integrity, collaboration, and accountability and we take pride in building long-term careers within aviation.
Position Summary:
The First Officer/Second in Command (SIC) supports the safe and efficient operation of the aircraft by assisting the Pilot in Command (PIC) in all flight duties. This role involves close collaboration with the PIC to ensure that all flight operations are conducted in compliance with company policies, Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), and industry standards. The SIC plays a critical role in monitoring aircraft systems, communicating with flight services, and ensuring a seamless flight experience for passengers. This position requires a high level of professionalism, safety awareness, and customer service.
Pilot Schedule & Program Overview (Pilot Roles Only)
This position supports a 135 operation flying a G200 based in KENW. The typical schedule is 8 hard days off per month, with average annual flight time of approximately 350-375 hours, 200 owner flight hours and 150-175 charter flight hours. The operation is crewed by 2 pilots and primarily conducts domestic flights. This information is provided for planning purposes and may vary based on operational demands and regulatory considerations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in Flight Operations: Support the PIC in planning and executing all flight operations, including weather analysis, routing, aircraft performance calculations, and pre-flight inspections. Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, standard operating procedures, and the company's Flight Operations Manual.
  • Flight Monitoring & Navigation: Monitor instrumentation and aircraft systems during all phases of flight. Operate navigational and communication radios as directed by the PIC, obtaining clearances and relaying instructions as needed.
  • Crew Resource Management (CRM): Maintain a high level of crew coordination and communication, providing feedback to the PIC and other crew members to ensure safe and efficient flight operations. Actively engage in the company's Safety Management System (SMS) to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Pre-flight & Post-flight Duties: Assist in conducting pre-flight inspections and ensuring that the aircraft is clean, stocked, and ready for flight. Ensure manuals, charts, and any passenger-specific items (e.g., catering) are onboard prior to departure. After the flight, assist with post-flight procedures and documentation.
  • Safety & Emergency Procedures: Be alert to any abnormal situations or deviations from normal procedures. In case of PIC inattention or incapacitation, take control of the aircraft to prevent hazards. Participate in safety audits, corrective action plans, and preventive measures.
  • Passenger Service: Assist in providing excellent customer service to passengers, ensuring their comfort and safety during the flight. Support the PIC in addressing passenger needs and delivering a high-quality flight experience.

Required or Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience:
    • 1500 total flight hours, 1000 PIC hours, including a minimum of 500 hours in multi-engine fixed-wing aircraft.
    • Turbine experience preferred.
  • Certifications:
    • Commercial Pilot Certificate with multi-engine instrument rating or higher required.
    • Current First-Class Medical Certificate required.
  • Skills:
    • Strong working knowledge of FAA regulations and flight operations procedures.
    • Excellent communication and decision-making skills, with the ability to operate effectively as part of a team.
    • Proficiency in CRM and flight management systems.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Must be available to report to the departure airport within 60 minutes for charter flight assignments.
    • Ability to lift, push, or pull over 50 pounds when handling baggage and equipment.
    • Must hold a valid passport and be willing to travel for extended periods as required by the flight schedule.
