Job description

Job Overview

The Chaplain Resident is enrolled in the education program of the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education, a national organization recognized as an accrediting agency in the field of clinical pastoral education. The Chaplain resident provides spiritual care and consultation to patients, families, and staff and does so under the supervision of a certified Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) Supervisor and faculty member of the Fairview CPE Center. This is a 53-week residency commitment. Residents are expected to contribute to the onboarding of the incoming cohort before the program concludes at the end of the residency year.
Responsibilities

  • Participates in and successfully completes education component of Pastoral Education by passing three consecutive CPE units over the year [or 53 weeks], consisting of completing readings, attending class, lectures and discussion groups, writing case studies and participating in their review, completing unit themed projects, engaging in professional feedback, writing self-evaluations, and receiving evaluations from certified educators.
  • Use the clinical method of learning in order to achieve educational goals
  • Provides spiritual care for patients and families based on assessment of their spiritual needs.
  • Provides of arrange for provisions of sacraments and rituals at the request of patients and /or family members in a manner in which the practices and rites of the faith group to which the chaplain belongs, as well as the traditions of the particular patient or family member.
  • Participates in work of the department, regular meetings of the staff and assigned clinical programs.
  • Fosters positive and productive relationships with customers, interdisciplinary teams, and the broader organization, leveraging emotional intelligence and spiritual leadership skills to create trust, identify values, resolve conflict, and support shared goals.

  • A level of theological training which allows the student to be effective in the Clinical Pastoral Education process
  • Certified or Certifiable

Preferred Qualifications

  • Theologically trained in the individuals respective faith tradition
