Job description

Physical Therapist – Contract (Travel/TDY) | Bethel, Alaska

Position Overview

The Physical Therapist provides full-time outpatient and inpatient therapy services across all age groups and a wide range of diagnoses in a rural Alaska setting. The role emphasizes evidence-based care, cultural sensitivity, and patient-centered treatment planning within a hospital and community environment.

Location & Schedule

  • Location: Bethel, Alaska

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, Day Shift

  • Contract Length: 35 weeks

  • Start Date: ASAP

  • Estimated Pay : $90 per hour

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide outpatient and inpatient physical therapy services to diverse patient populations across the lifespan.

  • Perform evaluations and develop, implement, and adjust individualized treatment plans using evidence-based practices.

  • Document evaluations, treatment sessions, progress notes, and discharge summaries accurately in the electronic medical record (Cerner).

  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate and optimize patient care.

  • Educate patients and caregivers on home exercise programs, functional mobility, and rehabilitation goals.

  • Demonstrate cultural awareness and respectful communication with Alaska Native and rural populations.

  • Maintain professional conduct and adhere to departmental, facility, and regulatory standards.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.

  • Active Alaska Physical Therapist license or eligibility (FSBPT paperwork completed; Student PT may be eligible per licensing rules).

  • Minimum of 3 years of physical therapy experience preferred.

  • Current BLS certification required.

  • Hospital-based experience strongly preferred.

  • Ability to work independently in both hospital and remote/village-based settings.

  • Comfortable practicing in rural and resource-variable environments.

  • Strong clinical documentation and EMR proficiency (Cerner).
