As a Production Trainer - You will provide classroom and practical training with a focus on warehouse and material handling training. This position will support learning in job specific training impacting the understanding of safety, quality and velocity responsibilities. This includes both onboarding and refresher training and the ability to work multiple shifts to support training needs.
THIS IS A CORE DAY SHIFT w/ TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES ON 2nd AND 3rd SHIFT HOURS FOR PERIODS OF TIME.
Pay Rate and Schedule:
The position includes a total extension wage of $28.35 /hour plus an additional $1.25 an hour shift differential for hours worked on off shifts (total: $29.60/hour on off-shifts) plus a comprehensive Day-One Benefit program. Paid weekly. Paid time-off: Vacation/PTO, holiday, and Winter Holiday*. 401k match (6%), plus an additional annual company contribution* to 401k's.
Opening available on 1st Shift: Monday - Friday, primary day hours, with expectation that hours will adjust depending on where the training need is at any given time. There will be time they will have to be present on all 3 shifts, no set schedule Overtime opportunities may be available on a voluntary basis based on business needs and with leader prior authorization. All initial communication and status updates will be via email.
Required Minimum Qualification for Consideration:
  • Minimum 6 months demonstrated experience in training, coaching or teaching
  • Minimum 6 months' demonstrated experience utilizing ERP systems (ex. SAP/Mach 1)
  • Minimum 6 months demonstrated understanding of inventory management processes
  • Minimum 6 months demonstrated experience utilizing mobile equipment (reach truck/order picker/counterbalance)
  • 1-3 years minimum experience in a Manufacturing environment or direct Material Handling experience in a warehouse environment

Top Candidates Will Have:
  • Experience in training curriculum content creation
  • Experience and knowledge of Caterpillar assembly operations and processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Strong knowledge in manufacturing processes and procedures
  • Ability to utilize computers to maintain and update training curriculum.
  • Intermediate or higher computer skills with emphasis on windows, SAP, and Microsoft Office products

Job duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for putting safety first with a goal to prevent all injuries, occupational illnesses and safety incidents
  • Manage and conduct classroom and hands-on practical training for new & existing team members with a focus on warehouse and material handling job roles. May provide training support to assembly. This includes the evaluation of team members skills and training to close skill/knowledge gaps prior to moving to the production floor.
  • May provide safety and other manufacturing training to new hires and current employees to drive performance improvement in safety, quality and velocity.
  • Responsible for maintaining and managing documentation and equipment for warehouse/material handling training curriculum to ensure accuracy, relevant and up-to-date materials. This includes continuing to demonstrate current manufacturing standards knowledge and continuous learning to stay up-to-date with ongoing changes.
  • Responsible to positively change the safety culture at Caterpillar Minneapolis.
  • Work with limited supervision. Coordinate and prioritize work to meet schedules.
  • Take initiative to identify, document, communicate and correct problems, report discrepancies and recommend solutions.
  • Interact, provide feedback and training to team members supporting People, Quality, Velocity and Cost (PQVC) initiatives and daily activities in alignment with our Code of Conduct and Values in Action.
  • Complete projects as needed
  • Ability to work flexible schedules to support production training and safety needs
  • Presenting and speaking to individuals and groups of team members

Work Environment & Physical Requirement Details:
Presenting and speaking to individual and groups of team members. Operate overhead cranes, jib cranes and hoists. Lift up to 35 lbs frequently. Work at multiple heights. Climb on equipment, machines, ladders and various step stools. Stand for a minimum of 8 hour shifts with minimal breaks. Work in an environment with frequently changing temperatures. Exposure to magnets that may impact medical devices. Kneel, squat, and crawl on knees. Work in awkward positions, including forward reach, lateral reach, squat, overhead reaching, twisting, and forward head and rotation of neck. Work in tight spaces. Repetitive grasping, pushing, pulling, rotating. Use of fine motor skills. Use of hand tools including wrenches, air tools, drills, cutters, tie wrap guns, pneumatic, vibratory, etc. Includes ability to pull manual torque tools to torque requirements (at least 250 Newton meters or 185 foot pounds). Required Personal Protective Equipment: hearing protection, safety glasses, steel toed/metatarsal foot gear, and, as needed, dust masks.
