Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Unity Catalog Business Definitions Analyst to own the end-to-end process of collecting, validating, and uploading business definitions while improving the overall experience for business stakeholders. The role will support multiple concurrent domain workstreams and help increase the velocity and quality of business definition population within Unity Catalog. The ideal candidate will have experience with data governance, metadata management, data catalog tooling, process improvement, stakeholder coordination, and structured data management.
Key Responsibilities
• Own the end-to-end process for collecting, validating, approving, and uploading business definitions into Unity Catalog.
• Assess the existing Excel-based definition collection process and identify friction points and opportunities for improvement.
• Design and implement a more intuitive intake experience for business stakeholders using improved templates, guided forms, or lightweight tooling.
• Document the end-to-end business definition collection, review, approval, and upload workflow.
• Maintain clear status tracking across active domain workstreams, including Communications, Operations, Finance, Marketing, Talent, and other business functions.
• Proactively follow up with domain owners and data stewards to move definitions through review and approval.
• Escalate blockers and provide regular progress updates to program leadership.
• Execute accurate and consistent uploads of validated business definitions into Unity Catalog.
• Maintain quality standards, including prevention of duplicate definitions, consistent formatting, and accurate ownership attribution.
• Validate that uploaded definitions are correctly surfaced and searchable within Unity Catalog.
• Conduct working sessions with business function teams to elicit, clarify, and validate business definitions.
• Serve as a consistent and helpful point of contact for business contributors.
• Coordinate multiple concurrent workstreams, timelines, stakeholders, and dependencies.
• Identify process gaps and implement improvements that increase participation, accuracy, and definition population velocity.
Required Qualifications
• Experience with data governance, metadata management, or data catalog tooling.
• Strong process orientation with the ability to map, improve, and execute repeatable workflows.
• Exceptional attention to detail, particularly regarding data entry, definition formatting, accuracy, and tracking.
• Excellent stakeholder communication and follow-through skills.
• Ability to work effectively with non-technical business users to elicit and validate business definitions.
• Strong experience working with Microsoft Excel and structured data.
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams and competing priorities.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced program environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Hands-on experience with Databricks Unity Catalog.
• Experience with business glossary, metadata management, or enterprise data governance programs.
• Experience improving manual data governance or metadata collection processes.
• Experience working with data stewards, domain owners, and business function teams.
• Experience supporting enterprise data programs with multiple parallel workstreams.
• Familiarity with lightweight data tooling or workflow automation.
• Experience working with data catalog or governance platforms.
