Cash Accountant

Position Overview

AMS Impact Group is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Cash Accountant to support the organization's accounting operations and financial integrity. This role is responsible for managing cash accounting functions, preparing reconciliations, supporting month-end close activities, and ensuring accurate financial reporting across multiple entities.

The ideal candidate is analytical, collaborative, and thrives in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities. This position plays a critical role in maintaining compliance, supporting audits, and ensuring accurate cash reporting that supports organizational decision-making and operational success.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Cash Accounting & General Ledger

  • Prepare and post cash-related journal entries in accordance with GAAP and organizational accounting policies.

  • Perform weekly, monthly, and year-end cash reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records.

  • Maintain and reconcile bank accounts and intercompany transactions across multiple entities.

  • Support timely and accurate state cash basis reporting requirements through E-Finance.

  • Assist with cash activity related to grants and restricted funding allocations.

  • Research and resolve discrepancies, variances, and outstanding reconciling items in a timely manner.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Support month-end and year-end close processes by preparing reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation.

  • Prepare audit schedules and assist with annual financial audits related to cash and intercompany activity.

  • Assist with federal, state, and grant compliance reporting requirements.

  • Support implementation and maintenance of internal controls and accounting best practices.

Collaboration & Process Improvement

  • Partner with Payroll, Accounts Payable, Grants, and Finance teams to ensure accurate classification and reporting of transactions.

  • Assist with documenting and improving accounting procedures and workflows.

  • Support accounting system implementations, upgrades, and process enhancements.

  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration across schools, departments, and organizational entities.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience required.

  • Experience performing bank reconciliations and cash accounting activities preferred.

  • Previous experience in nonprofit, education, charter school, or multi-entity environments preferred.

  • Experience with Workday or other ERP/accounting systems strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup formulas, and data analysis functions.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reconciliation abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
