This position is located in the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), Executive Office for Immigration Review, U. S. Department of Justice. Incumbent serves as a Legal Instruments Examiner performing initial and continuing review of a large variety of legal appeal and related documents.
This is a Competitive Service position; additional positions may be filled from this announcement within 90 days of certificate issuance.Qualifications:In order to qualify for the Legal Instrument Examiner (Case Processing) position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:
FOR THE GS-08 LEVEL:Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks, full-time) of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service (or comparable experience outside the Federal service), performing
3 or more of the following duties:
- Reviewing legal or administrative documents, case files, and supporting records to ensure compliance with policies and procedures;
- Processing and maintaining case information in tracking systems to ensure accurate records, and support timely case processing;
- Organizing case files, legal records, and supporting documentation; and
- Monitoring reports and case documentation to track deadlines, communicate case status, and support legal or administrative operations.

FOR THE GS-09 LEVEL:Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks, full-time) of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-08 level in the Federal service (or comparable experience outside the Federal service), performing
2 or more of the following duties:
- Examining and processing complex legal or administrative documents to verify accuracy, resolve documentation issues, and support the timely processing of cases;
- Coordinating with attorneys and stakeholders to obtain information, clarify documentation, and support case preparation and resolution; and
- Analyzing case information and maintaining case management databases to prepare reports, monitor case status, and support the effective management of legal or administrative matters.
